Sorry to hear man. One of the best ways to stop this is either 1. Take the engine fuse out or 2. Make a detachable length of wire to one of the necessary electronic components in the engine bay ie. MAF, Ignition ect. it's a bit more work but unless they have a flatbed that car is going no where in a hurry.
