alright so i brought the car in and everything checks out fine...
what was done:
-compression test: 125,130,125,130
-fuel pressure test: 41-42 psi idle, 8-10 psi vac line open
-spark plug and wires checked good
-leak down test done
-no external leaks
-mechanic couldn't get any read on ecu. turns device on but no connection. why?
drove home fine. next day car wont start.
it cranks but wont start.

Check your sparks. I had the same problem too but a new set of sparks fixed it.

Could be your map sensor from the running video. When I had a jdm sensor in with no tune for it mine idled like that

got the car running. yupp... it was the spark plugs.
replaced them and the wires.

question though, how does engine knock sound like?
hearing a low tapping i think between the fuel injectors and engine.
or are evo engines just naturally noisy?
let me know. a video would be nice if you got one.

Lifter tick is what you possible hear. 4g motors are very prone to it. They make a quieter set, but I am used to a 1g and the evo is very quite vs that.

So is lifter tick is a bad thing?

No, its not a bad thing, just annoying. The only fix it to get the no tick lifters. I think GSC made a set.
