How does what is essentially a 3" stainless version of the stock intake with an open filter decrease your boost by 4psi?

the evo will run very lean in the midrange (according dynoflash and vividracing) the maf is thrown off by the incoming air retards timing because of detonation... easily fixed by addition of afc and MBC

So if you were to just get the intake, with the loss of boost (supposedly) you're pretty much negating any gains the intake would have right?

That's not possible. End of story.

My car was running 20.5psi and taper down to 17psi with RMR turboback, and HKS RS kit (stock ecu). With Works P2, max boost is now at 22-23 psi, and taper down to 20-21 psi.

If you notice, the HKS Racing Suction is a tapered system, (like a velocity stack). It flows as much air as the restrictive MAF will allow.
If you only add the HKS and nothing else, it will decrease power by throwing the MAF signal due to higher volume of air moving thru.
I'm pretty sure boost isn't affected but the Air/fuel ratio is thrown off and it generally richens the mixture too much.
As a total package, the HKS with some sort of fuel controller or stand alone WILL add power.
Al told me he's had big improvements with the HKS and his Dynoflash.
...Oh, and yeah, it's LOUD! No need for VTA BOV.

Im planning to get the RS intake. I've got full pipe, downpipe & blow off valve. Would I lose BOOST w/ my current set up? I dont want to sacrifice losing power w/ more sound. Or should i just buy the HKS filter only?
