Bought my 06 Evo with 35,000 miles. Car fax clean everything seemed great. Seemed to develop a small boost leak. Pulled front bumper, found licp was very dented and very large dent in front frame as well as suspiciously new hood latch assembly. Guess I'll be showing up to car purchases with socket wrenches from now on ha
Its tough to find an evo that hasn't been abused though, especially now that they are becoming cheaper and more younger kids are getting a hold of them. Your lucky no damage was done, and just like any evo you would buy it seems the first mods are always to 'get it running like oem',haha.
When I bought my evo it had some basic issues, but I knew that the frame was straight and anything mechanical I could fix. It had some not really well thought out mods, perrin crank pulley, evo 8 dv installed backwards, a ebay licp with torn couplers, and a few boost leaks, and a seibon crappy fitting cf hood. I got it at a good deal so it was worth it.

I bought a nice Evo IX a few months ago. 20k mileage car with a Buschur 2.3, Buschur stage 3 head, and FP green turbo which all had less than 1k miles. I was really happy, I decided to buy a Buschur built car for $5k more than a stock car w/bolt ons. I am in NJ and the car was in Ca so we did the deal and a few weeks later the car arrived. I drove it for 38 miles. Then, I let a friend of mine who was instrumental in finding the car drive it and well it didn't go so well... To make a long story short something went wrong and the valves hit the pistons and broke all of the intake side rockers and bent the $hit out of the valves. I was with him the whole time and he didn't do anything wrong.
I could make a whole thread about this in itself....
The part that relates to this thread is just that when pulling the head off I found all sorts of things going on that I would've never thought. More than a few bolts that were finger tight, including the main bolt that goes through the upper motor mount. What really surprised me was that every connector on the main engine harness were missing their locks, the little metal lock that makes sure the connector will not come off.
There was other stuff that I found but that was 6 weeks ago and I don't remember.
I am not blaming the original owner since I believe he had someone build it.
I am starting to think I wasn't cut out for an Evo....I had a lot of drama trying to buy one and then the one I bought gets screwed up on the first day!

That's why i made sure I was buying a bone stock car with low miles. I wanted to know every thing about it and do everything my self so I wasn't getting someone else's mess. I'm sire it was the previous owner or installer messed it up from sins of it.
In dealing with high performance machines sometimes these things happen and it isn't anyone's fault. The car ran great for the previous 38 miles after it came off of the trailer.
I bought my '04 from a dealer in Atlanta, drove it home to Buffalo NY and about 500 miles of driving around here I lost 4th gear randomly, then a couple months later the transfer case went. It only had 29k miles on it, clean car fax. Luckily for me, Georgia doesn't have a "lemon law" so the dealer told me to blow.
Only on the RS though right?
Not long after I bought my car I decided to go through and tidy up the loose ends. First was the gizzmo launch interface that didn't work. Definitely a home quality install, electrical tape and loose wires everywhere, the ignition wires from the ECU were cut and reattached, the interface was half hooked up. Pulled that out and inspected it, missing wires (compared to a new one) and inside half the wires weren't connected to anything, cheap knockoff maybe?
Next the aftermarket cruise control which looked half pro and half home job, this also didn't work. Electrical tape and loose ends all over again. Then there was the mystery box, also a home job. The box had a power source tapped from the FATT and a vacuum hose from the intake manifold connected to a pressure switch in the box. Inside the box, a remote that controlled the variable flow Varex muffler, the box had the power source disabled and the motor in muffler had seized.
After all that was sorted, I was able to drive the car with wires dangling all over my legs.

That really sucks. Nice to see that you are not blaming anybody, though it is probably someones fault. Make me wonder if it would have happened had you been able to test drive the car first. Thats gonna be an expensive fix. Have you tried to talk with Buschur about this just to make sure none of the parts were faulty. Im sure and hope that it was just a random misshap.

Whatever happened was something in the timing so it isn't something that Buschur would be involved with. I believe that something went wrong there and caused all the damage.

I was looking for obvious signs of damage. I knew if it had been hit it wasn't serious because it drove straight and aligned ok. There were tell tale signs of a fender bender but I just wanted to make sure it wasn't so bad that the frame didn't have an impact dent marks on it or anything like that.
I have the head back from Buschur and they made repairs to it and were great to deal with.

Friend did a nice 4 gear pull and he shifted before 7k rpms. We go about another mile or two and the car shuts off at 3k rpms. As we are coasting to a stop, with the engine still off, at about 10-15 mph we heard a noise which must have been the all the damage. It was very strange, there were no strange noises until those when we were almost stopped.
