I was doing shifter bushings and while reaching around down there above the transmission, I found that the rear transmission mount is completely broken off of the transmission. I can't just replace the mount, It's broken on the transmission side. I will need a new tranny housing to repair this.

Damn! That's no fun, especially when you find out like that. Was the car shifting strangely at all?

wow that does suck. not a cheap fix either. I have seen cases only go for 300-400 bucks.

I'm glad you were able to catch your problem before something catastrophic happened... After seeing that, I would start inspecting more to see if anything else is missing/installed wrong.

I didn't realize when I bought it, but my IX was in pretty bad shape when I bought her.
- Not so bad, but it happens to be an SE and has standard IX seats and rims.
- Bolts were loose/missing that connect the tranny to the engine.
- t-case leaked/ran dry before I bought the car. Replaced when it finally gave out.
- One of the lines to the wastegate solenoid was snapped off and bypassed. Ended up being the cause of death of my engine a month after purchase of the car. Boost would spike passed 27psi even when lightly pushing the gas pedal. Engine blew up the night before I was going to drop it off to get fixed.

Now, with a worthy owner, she's running as good as she did when she rolled off the factory floor been a pain in the wallet to get her going again but I have no regrets. I freaking love my car!

So for about the last week I have been wrenching on my used 03 viii that I have had for awhile. I have been stocking up parts of things that need to be fixed or things that I want upgraded. So one of those things on my list was the timing belt and tensioner kit made by gates. Well I get about half way into it and I notice something doesnt seem right. I am following the how to on evom when all of a sudden I see that there is no TIMING BELT AUTO TENSIONER.

Yes you read that correct, the timing belt auto tensioner is not there. How in the world someone for gets that is beyond me. Im surprised or just luck that no damage was done. So not only was the tensioner not there well the bolts were missing too. So had to stop and get some bolt ordered.

Lets here your stories of major things missing that you didnt find till later
How was it not pissing out oil everywhere? Those bolt holes go straight through. Unless you never started the car.

It did leak oil, but maybe a drop a day if the car was driven but there were no signs of larger amounts of oil be sprayed all over. I did have the car in the shop for other problems and they told me that my front main seal was leaking. This was when i had decided to start doing all the work on it. Front seal is good so IDK.

Unfortunately it's the risk we run when purchasing used Evos Sh***y previous owners...
I felt the same way you did when my Evo was dead... I had just traded in a perfectly running 2002 MR2 Spyder (was in amazing shape) for what was supposed to be my dream car. As much as I loved my MR2, I had always been dead set on buying an Evo ever since they started being sold in the US.
When the engie blew up I was full of emotions. Extreme anger at the state of Utah for not having a lemon law on used vehicles, and at the shady business that sold me the car. Worried because I was weeks from PCSing out of the country. Mad at myself for giving up a perfectly running car.
It took a while, but now she's running like a champ it was just the initial bump I had to get over that was hard.
It just sucks that I'm all the way in Italy until September and my Evo is in the states... begging to be driven lol

That is crazy because when i did my t belt and did not tighten those bolts all the way down, my car had a stream of oil coming from the bolt holes. It soaked my t belt in a matter of minutes. haha do you have any oil pressure? Weird.

Weird, I own a IX SE that also came to me with standard seats. The rims are from a VIII though. Go figure.

Still, my car has been disturbingly reliable in the time that I have owned it. I wonder sometimes whether it is trying to lull me into a false sense of security before it pulls something big.

Yeah, previous owners can make more money out of selling the SE seats and rims before they trade it in, since they won't get any more value out of the car with them installed. so they trade them for regular seats and rims + money before they trade in the car.

Likely would never notice with shifting. This mount was never added to the tranny until late evo V.
