whats up everyone i have two problems i could use help with on my 03 evo 8.
1) a few weeks ago i started having a problem where when i get on it and my boost gauge gets past 20 psi...which is where the manual boost controller was set..it st udders or feels almost like a misfire... bad plugs? boost controller messed up? any ideas?

2) a couple days ago i was driving home and let of the gas..doing about 55 and heard a sound coming from in-front of driver seat under the hood. it sounds almost like metal spinning..only happens when i let off the gas in second gear or up... and ont when clutch it not pressed down.

1. sounds like ignition probs

2. sounds like the shifter cable washer rattling

 

1 - most likely spark plug gap

2 - rattle noise or more of a metallic grinding?? Have you serviced the trans or any diffs lately?

 

haven't serviced any of that recently nut plan to now.ASAP

 

The first sounds like spark blow-out.

Noises are hard to diagnose over the internet.

 

idk if this is going to help anyone, i have yet to get a chance to jack the car up and actually look around do to work, but when i kick the front driver side tire ( side of noise) if i kick the rear of the tire it bangs almost like something is loose((hopefully that is all)

 

Check that trans fluid if she runs low it will sound like a Gypsy"s tambourine when in the clutch isnt pressed.

 

UPDATE
Whats up everyone , i recently swapped out my plugs as well as my wires which did solve the (studdering issue)
I also replaced the tranny fluid in hopes that the ''gypsy noise '' would go away.... sadly it did not ...still when im driving over 20 mph and let off the gas pedal completely it makes the tambourine sound or metal swooshing.... i can not figure out what it is. as i was changing the tranny fluid i found that the same side as the noise (driver front ) outer tie rod end was bad...not severely but it is. could that be it ? i dont see hwo that would make the noise but i ordered new ones so will see... if anyone has more info please let me know!

What clutch is in the car?

 

clutch chatter i think.its ok.

 

Sounds like transfer case whine, common on higher milage evolutions.

 

not sure what clutch.... not stock though also has light weight fly... mileage is only 60k....it is pretty loud

 

Can you hear the noise at idle? If so, Does it still make the noise when the clutch is pressed in?
Do you have any shaking in your steering wheel at speeds of 60-75MPH?

 

No noise at idle..only comes when im doing over 20 and let completely off the gas..if i press the gay in even just a hair it will stop..and the higher the RPMS it seems to be louder (when i down shift into say 3rd it its loud )

ALSO the first problem with the (lagging or studdering ) that i thought i fixed has came back today FML i scanned the codes on my car and here is what i got

 

3 codes .P0302. P0420 p0302 : MIL on;monitrs;2 inc;
catalyst; EGR; 6 rdy; misfire; fuel; comp;evap; 02 snsr; 02 htr


High flow cat is reason for some codes.
