I dont think I've ever taken any of my cars to a shop. With the exception of body work, I do everything myself. I'm lucky enough to have access to the Auto hobby shop on Andrews AFB. They have everything you need to do anything you want. You can rent a lift stall for $5.50 an/hr or an open bay for $3.00. Makes fluid changes ,tire rotation and suspension work a breeze.I've even swapped out a few engines in my Nissans' there. You gotta love air tools.

I learned along time ago that if you can maintain the small stuff yourself, then you won't be spending so much on the expensive stuff. (Mainly Shop time )

In the beginning I used to have a Mk3 Jetta that was I took to the shop to do everything from oil changes to installing of aftermarket equipment. Toward the end, I began to maintain much of the stuff myself.

Then came the AE86. That thing still needs work. But I maintained the oil, changed the wheels, suspention, and replaced items as they went. The only thing I had the shop do was replace the engine after I blew up the original.

My evo is a different story. The tuning is a bit more sensetive and i have to research components and combinations for the installation to be proper.

Basicaly I can do, things from, Suspention, brakes, oil, plugs, filters, bolt ons etc.

I stay away from anything that has to do with massive engine changes, overhauls, transmissions or anything electrical. I don't have the skills, tools or time to tackle those items.

Oh, you can get the service manual at the dealership or be cheap and get it off of ebay!

I only do the oil changes bcz that's the only thing I know, and that someone taught me. If someone taught me how to do other maintenance I'll catch on.

I do everything myself except for recall or warranty work. And that's only because they won't give you the parts for free if you install them yourself.

Or you can be even cheaper and download a 163mb PDF copy of the service manual.

Not that I'd ever do that, cuz it's considered stealing.

the full factory service manual can be downloaded in pdf format, complete with index, embedded hot links to related manual sections, etc

my dealer told me they couldn't even get a shop manual!...that was in September

I do all my oil changes and tire rotations per the instruction manual to a T. And keep all the reciepts just in case I have a problem so I can show Mitsubishi I kept up to their policy on Mobile 1 and genuine Mitsubishi oil filters.

I did everything myself except the differentials. I think I can do a more decent job in maintainance like tire rotation and oil changes than some dealerships, and I have to pay them for sub-par service? NaH.

Its very easy to change the oil the EVOs so why pay someone who sometimes dont give a shiet about your $30,0000 ride. NaH.

That may not help. I was told by my dealer, the moment you turn a wrench on your car the warranty is void. Change your own oil, change your sparkplugs; boom, done. Whether or not they will be able to tell you did anything is up in the air for maintenance stuff. Mitsubishi’s defense is very simple should you admit to doing your own maintenance; are you ASE certified? No? Sorry too bad for you.

This is the corporate stance, whether or not your dealer is going to stand behind this policy is up to the service manager or mechanic. YMMV.

Your dealer is telling a bald-faced lie.

They want your service and maintenance business. That's all that's about.
