Garage Queen! Topic: Car in storage
Good day,
I've been searching and searching with recommendation going from this way and that.
Long story short: Car will be down for a month + 1/2 so what do you guys do during that time frame? Idle, drive down the block, etc?

Mine is a garage queen...I never just idle in the garage, its not a good way to bring the car up to temperature. Plus I want to get the tires moving to avoid flat spots, keep the battery charged, etc.
I try to take the evo on an errand every weekend, 15-20 min drive or so.

Park 'nose' in to the garage. Get a trickle-charge battery charger. (I have a Craftsmen from Sears w/ a built in starter option-Wow!) If it's a secured, single car garage, open windows a 'crack' so that your interior can 'breathe'. Not a good idea to leave e-brake on for all that time as it can stretch the rear line in time, so I use wheel chocks behind 2 wheels and I leave the trans in first gear which is a low gear and car WON'T roll.
The reason I suggest you park the car 'nose' in is just in case you want to idle the car once in a while, which is something you should do. With the car nose in, you can now just start it up and let the rear end of the car outside while idling for safety reasons...
And for a month and a half, your car won't get flat spots. It takes years now to get flat spots with the current tire technology. Read my signature below, I have been storing my 1989 MITSUBISHI Starion since 2001 with NO problems! Good luck!

Thanks for the info Howard! I was told the battery charger from a co-worker and will go with that as I hate having to deal with that if I get stuck or my son forgets to close a door at times. No window in my garage so that sucks.
good advice on direction as I turned it around today (the wrong direction). I hate putting in gear but makes sense with the advice you gave. Bad thing is 1 of the chocks I have, I just ran over when I forgot it during recent tinkering! I guess 1 chock and a block will do!

To be honest for a month and a half I wouldn't even worry about it.
I might pull the battery but other than that I wouldn't even worry about having to start it.
My Evo has sat a month +, I go out and she fires right up. I wouldn't sweat it

Noooooo! Keep the windows in your garage SHUT!!! I meant the windows of your car! Leave them open a crack so that the interior can 'breathe'.
I agree. 1.5 months is nothing.

I garage my car every winter.
1. I brim the tank with fuel. The less space there is in there means the less room there is for condensation. You could also alternatively drain it 99%.
2. I remove the battery completely and store it indoors safely.
3. Chock the wheels, so I don't ruin the handbrake/rotors.
4. Car is washed, polished, waxed (tho whole deal, but I do it myself) and then INSTANTLY put away. Car is also covered.
5. Before I start the car in the spring for the first time, I do an oil change. Check everything over to make sure nothing built a nest in my filter etc. and call it good.

For 1.5 months all I would do is disconnect the battery. A good battery will start the car after that amount of time. When my battery was not so good it would be dead in four days if the car was idle.

My old evo and when I was renting, I later found after having my evo sit for a few weeks and noticed bite marks. Soon enough, I found poop (RATS!)!

I don't want to be a dick but seriously? this is a real thread for 1.5 months? Cars sit in parking lots and dealer lots for longer times........**** it took 4 wks for your car to come from Japan lol
.... if mini battery, disconnect, if not, give your car a hug and see it in 1.5 months
