headlights got scratched!
Anyone know how i can remove a scratch on my 9 headlights its about 5 inches long and i can feel it pretty good with my nails. Anyway i can fix that? Anyone have ideas?
you can do the job yourself for inexpensive. However, remember that to remove the scratch, you need to sand the surrounding lens down to the depth of the scratch, which removes strength, and depending upon the depth of the scratch, may not be feasible.
You can sand, and polish it yourself with a 3M kit and an electric drill. The kits cost about $15-17 and can be found at any automotive store.
If you want to clear coat it. You can buy a can of spraymax 2K (catalyzed) clear, and have a hardened automotive clear coat over top (do not use standard rattle can clear coats!!!!!). However if you do this, do not final polish the lenses to give the clear coat a "tooth" to grab onto.
Full cost to do the job.... $40 30 minutes removing the headlamp. 30 minutes polishing. 20 min prep and painting, then 30 min re installing.
Or, you can buy a New Mitsu OEM headlamp lens and housing for $350-$430 depending upon the year/model.
