Evo with +4 cylinders?

I know the Evo IX doesn't have a whole lot of room in the engine bay. But I saw what all the guys over at Top Secret have crammed into their cars: "v8 Gtr" "v12 Supra." and that got me thinking about an I6 or V6 Evo. Something never been done before, atleast to my knowledge. I know there would be a ridiculous amount of custom fab to be done and a whole different engine mapping. Maybe a 6a13 or 6g7 "cyclone?" So the question is.

Is it possible?

If not a mitsubishi motor, what motor?

what kind of custom fab?

general cost? It'll be steep...

thanks in advance.

Please go back to subaru forums.

Mitsubishi only ever made 1 8 cyl engine, and it is nearly unobtainable. You said +4 cyl but listed v6 engines.

+4 cylinder meaning more than 4 cylinders. And the mitsubishi gto is a 6 cylinder along with a galant or something or another.

I was going to mention there is an LS powered evo (I think there may actually be several) but I'm pretty sure it is RWD.

If you want to stick with AWD I'd suggest looking at the 8th gen VR4 drivetrain (6A13TT), the engine isn't as good (IMO) as the 4G63 but it does have 2 more cylinders and one more turbo and uses some drivetrain components from earlier evos.

1. Yes.
2. Depends on the route you take.
3. As the saying goes, if you have to ask...

A question for you if you want to continue this endeavor, why do you want to swap the powerplant and what do you want to achieve by doing it?

so you mean 4+ cylinders, +4 means adding 4 cylinders...

Whether you're trolling or not, I'm going to say a few things because lord knows the 3 noobs we get that actually search will find this damn thread, and all be talking about swaps.

There are really only 2 reasons for a swap.
1. Your motor sucks.
2. You want to enter a race/event with a displacement requirement.

So.
1. The 4G63 in the Evo is well capable of producing a grotesque amount of HP for the car, so I couldn't really see you thinking it sucked...
2. I'm going to go out on a limb here, and guess you aren't trying to enter a JGTC event.

So presumably, you're trying to do it to be different?
1. You won't be able to run AWD without using a Mitsu engine, and as was stated, the 6A motors or the 6G motors that Mitsu makes would be your only options. I would probably not consider them worse than the 4G63, but it certainly wouldn't be an upgrade.
2. The weight distro would be awful.

The only custom pieces you'd really need would be motor mounts, and a driveshaft. But you'd need a new motor and transmission.

Either way... this is a stupid idea. You'd be far better off to buy something else that is far less than perfect (the USDM 240sx's come to mind), and swap a motor into that.

But welcome none the less.

Laugh if you will. My ultimate goal is a "sleeper" 1000hp Evo IX.

As much carbon as possible, stock looking widebody and I'm toying with the idea of making it RWD, reversibly, for show drift and AWD for time attack and weekend rally.

Yes I know the price will be absolutely ridiculous and honestly, no one will even see the beginnings of this build for atleast 3 years, that's my estimate. But yeah, I want more displacement(2.4l), preferably without a stroker kit. My goals are more cylinders for the stability at such high horsepower, to do a cool project people might actually be interested in, and further my fab skills aslong as stand out a bit.

Thank you for the serious responses. All the evo guys in my area say I'm dreaming, but the stories of bigger engine swaps keep following me around coincidentally. More Top Secret projects and Tom's projects keep presenting themselves to me. So I'm inspired. And what makes the Evo so "perfect?" There's nothing more mechanically in sync than a AWD tuned I4 2.0l?

Finally, does anyone think keeping a 4g63 is a better decision for this build than a 6a13t? I'd convert to use a large Garrett, not two small turbos.

1000hp on the 4G63 has already been done. No reason not to follow that route IMO.
