Notchy gears or grinding?

05 evo 103.5k miles..only thing clutch wise is braided clutch line. When tryin to shift really fast it kinda grinds/whines most noticeably going into or downahiftin into fourth... This does not happen if i shift normally or slow, only when trying to shift hard...is this normal for evos?

Not really, They are pretty well Built well the 5 speeds,
Some of the syncros just need a little work, and the preloads need to be tighter thats all.

Wanna see a bad trans Pay 50k+ for a M5 And replace it every 20k miles [SMG auto]

Try changing the fluid and other advise first you never know, but ! It's most likely your syncro cuz it happen to me my third went out so I dropped alot of money into my 9 for new clutch flywheel and tranny.. If you gonna pull the tranny out might as well replace everything else wile your there.

Does anyone have any experience mixing GM Synchromesh in Evo transmissions? I know the Honda guys and Subie guys do it with great success. I would start by flushing the fluid first.

May help just changing your transmission fluid in general. Depends how long it's been since it was changed.

Amsoil IMO is the best to use, it worked very well for me and I'm using it from now on

These transmissions are notchy as hell by nature. I've driven quite a few over the years and they've all felt basically the same. Both Evos I've had were low mileage and still shifted like crap especially when cold. Shifter bushings will make an improvement.
I've tried Redline MT90 and Amsoil 75-90 and I'd give the nod to amsoil regarding shifting feel and improvement post-fluid change.

Sounds like its time for a rebuild, I have GM synchromesh in mine for the time being to help with shift feel, mine too is in need of a rebuild. With this light weight of an oil the only thing I would worry about is track use or long term wear protection, but as I have said I am not worried about wear protection, well aware it needs a rebuild and will be coming out this winter.

100k miles isn't bad for syncro service life on a car that's usually driven hard (Evo)... It shouldn't be too expensive if the trans still "works", and you'll have a stronger trans at the end of it all.

I'd send out your transfer case for inspection and LSD detailing if it hasn't been done, replacing the ring gear gets pricey, and a detail can save you buying a replacement LSD!
