checklist help

hi guys, im fairly new when it comes to modding cars, but since i got my evo summer 2011 i have been getting more into car customizations. my evo is my DD and i love it. my goal for the car is to reach 500 whp and keep it as my DD. so my question is could someone help me with a sort of "Checklist" of parts that i would need to make it to that level. just a basic path of items i would need, i know i would need to change the stock turbo and all and im not sure if im gonna do it all soon but having a list to work with would help me out alot. thanks!

and i know there are the 2 stickys on top to look at but they dont really give me the power numbers i would reach with the items, i would like to know a path to take to reach my goal if u will.

Evo dyno tuning and results is a good section to start at. When I started my build I made sure I researched for about a month before I ordered anything. Good way is to get a basic start, small parts first like brand name gauges: boost, wideband, oil temp/pressure, turbo timer. Starting a list is easy, getting the one you want to be set with is pretty hard. What your budget capable of is the key.

Port both intake and exhaust manifolds
Evo 9 turbo
Injectors
Fuel pump
Charge pipes
Intercooler

Also, make sure you find a reputable shop to do the work if you aren't. Same thing with the tuning. Good tuning is key for DD. Parts on these car can sometimes be personal. Some people like brand X, when brand Y will do just fine. Also for a DD don't try going and reinventing the wheel. It's a lot easier to copy what someone else has done, then you can just change stuff for personality . Don't just take peoples word on it. Do your research, and when you think you know... research some more.

If I were you I would start off by finding as many 500hp dd evos I can find and look for the similarities... That's where your list starts. Also like Czar said... gauges are not a bad place to start.

1. You don't need a turbo timer
2. You won't make 500 hp on a 9 turbo

Do some research, everyone wants to post threads asking "what do I do" but you'll just get fanboy answers since most people have only used one turbo, or one cam selection. If you read the sticky threads, it shows a good general progression for everything you'll end up needing until its time to get a bigger turbo etc. as was previously stated, read the dyno results thread, people usually post all of their mods and power levels.

@ ace004 im not worried about installing the parts. my dad is the foreman at a reputable auto body shop so i know the install will be in good hands. tuning i need to look more into though.

@djdnav i had a feeling the 9 turbo wouldnt make it to 500whp
and i already have the boost gauge installed from the previous owner as well as a perrin cool air intake and a megan exaust. .

i also have some parts not installed yet, i have a UEGO AEM afr gauge, walbro 255 pump, 1000cc injectors, 3in fmic.
so thats it so far.

Not a bad start. To break 5xx hp you'll want to look into cams (and probably springs/retainers), licp, different bypass valve, boost controller (manual or 3port), o2 housing, port the manifolds, clutch, and a larger turbo. If your Exhaust isn't complete, you'll want to sort that.

As far as turbos you can go t3 or stock frame, but if you decide for a full t3 kit they're typically better suited for higher power levels since you have to change so many parts to support them, and it's not ideal for a stock block. If you plan on leaving the block as it is, you probably shouldn't push past about 500hp/450tq. The turbo you need is going to depend on the fuel used, and the spool characeristics you want. Is 500 just an arbitrary number since you're primarily dd, or is that what you think you need to run a specific time?

500 just sounds like a nice number, no track numbers involved, i just think it would be cool to own a 500whp car, a personal goal i guess.
I forgot to mention I have a act hd2 clutch ( I think that's what it's called) already installed also.

I'm looking to get all these things over time, I'm just trying to get a game plan going twards my build. I guess I have to do some research as to what each of those parts does because like I said I wasn't a big car guy but since I got my evo I have been wanting to learn more.

Nothing wrong with arbitrary numbers. It's just good to get all your performance expectations on the table before you spend money, then find out you have to re-buy parts (like a lot of people that buy mild cams, expensive small turbos) when you decide what you got is going to quickly become a bottleneck.
