JDM Rear Bumper support Question
After doing some searching if I didn't want to mod the rear bumper support I came across this

Nnot 100% sure but i think that is the retainer and not the rear crash beam. If u aare looking for the actual retainer, i dont see whyy you wouldnt just modify the stock one when all it takes is two extra rivets and ten more minutes of your time. All u do is drill out 2 more rivets holding the flat plate bracket on the arms, bend the arms straight, reposition the plate, mark your holes, redrill in new position and rivet together.

Thanks yah that is what I thought it was. I thinking it was the crash beam. Wishful thinking. Was being lazy didn't feel like modifying. Appreciate the response.
Correct that is the bumper support which is different that the crash beam. I went with this piece:

It is a little pricey but fitment was spot on and it saves 10lbs over the factory piece. I cant comment on its crash strength and I hope to never be able to but personally I think itll offer more rigidity and strength over the tubular pieces out there.

Yah saw that. I don't care much about the weight savings to be honest. I will end up modding the stock. didnt' want to spend that much money. worse comes to worse I will make my own or have my fabricator make one..
Not going to wait for STM to make them. They don't have any in stock and they are a bit backed up in the fab department. But yah that is what i was looking for..

So Quick update.. In case anyone is curious.. This was a bit more work than i expected. I took off my USDM bumper support and started to modify it to fit. I followed the DIY on here...
I was grinding the welds off... Grinding and grinding and griding.. Then tried to use an air hammer to force them off.. Was making a mess of teh bumper support.. so then was inspecting.. I noticed some of the spot welds.. Had my spot weld drill bit and drilled them out. Then was able to air hammer off a part of the bracket. ( I can post some pics when I get home).
I then went back to griding off the welds for the spacer part. had better access. I was able to get those down and air hammered the rest.
I then welded the parts back on with out the spacer put a few coats of paint on there and bolted it back on. Worked out great. But was a lot more work than I expected. If i wasn't at the shop which i usually am not I would not have the tools to do this at my house..

There is a great DIY on socalevos. I had mine drilled out and grinded off in less than 5 minutes. (Harbor freight angle grinder/cutter $29. Spot welds were cut out with a dremel tool, then drill bit) Re-welded in under 10. There is zero reason/need to use an air hammer.
