Which One Should I Get?
I've had an evo 8 since I was sixteen but have saved up enough to get a new 8 or 9. I kept the engine basically stock because I couldn't afford in back in high school and didn't have any need for a ton of power in college except for flexin on some Suby's. I am selling my evo to a friend an I have found three different Evo's in my area for sale that I could get. I live 2 minutes away from pacific raceways its practically my back yard so I want a project at I can build. I know everything about evos and how to build it just wondering what you guys would get?
1. 2003 evo 8 with 38000 miles!? Talked to the salesman and got carfax. It's bone stock. Good shape. This is one I would probably get.
2. 05 evo 8 MR with 52000 miles. I'm not so sure about the six speed so if you have one then tell me why i should?
3. Evo 9 not a MR and has 80000 miles. Exterior is good and only has a few bolt ons but I don't know about the previous owner.
I know what each offers and I know all about them so don't post about that, and I know how to mod an evo and I'm not looking for lessons how to build lol. Just curious what u would get?

8 has lowest miles and is cheaper than 9 to mod. if you plan to build and get serious (built block/ head) I would say 03 or 05 cause no mivec. if you look the majority of the fastest evos on evom are non mivec. also the 05-06 had front lsd 03 did not but the 05 MR is 6 speed also very weak. I say 03 (unless you are set on having active center diff ie. gravel, tarmac, snow)
Since you opened it up to which one would I get, then I'd have to say all 3
Seriously though, if I could keep my VIII, then I'd get the IX. If I had to sell the VIII then I'd get the 03 or the IX from your list. Not on your list is a 05 or 06 RS. GL!

Yeah I've been pretty sure on the 8 I was just curious. I already have some light mods for an 8 as well including; tbe, licp, perrin intake and I have an evo 9 bov, forge rs bov, and would have the stock 8 but I'm no ricer and could car less about the sound of that. I will prolly buy other small parts including cams, injectors fuel pump ect. It will prolly be a while till a block/head or a bigger turbo. Plus I have a buddy that works at a shop that tunes. The only thing is that it would be my daily car except when I'm driving my bike so I wouldn't mind if I had the active center diff.
Anyone with a 9 who have had an 8: can you actually tell the difference between the 8 and 9's drivability on gravel, snow,or Tarmac? Or are the about the same?
-also, I'm not going to be offroading but I live in washington and will drive in snow a lot.

It depends on what you plan on doing with the car. Option 1 is great because it is a low mile non raped Evo 8. Option 2 is what I have and I went with it for the convenience of the 6th gear on highway and longer trips plus it has the 8.5 turbo. Option 3 is good for the Evo 9 interior, MIVEC(if you want it), and the evo 9 turbo. It all depends on what you want and of course the cost as well.

Another one on the bandwagon of the 6 speed being weak. One reason there are more Evo 8s that are powerful than the 9 is because it was in production for 3 years vs. 1 year. Evo 8s are cheaper to buy in the first place than a 9 as well. I have no idea where you got your information that a 9 is more expensive to mod but that is wrong.

Get the 9. Give it a good checkup, if it's been looked after well and maintened properly, you will never look back at that decision. Mileage is a completely irrelevant piece of info apart from people telling you it's worth less because of that. I can show you a car with 10k miles that's more beat up than a lot of 100k commuters.
I would either go with 1 or 2 depanding on how much of a differace in price . Idk the budget but miles seem decent on number 2 for being a mr for that year . Like everyone says just cause it has 30k miles u never truley know if that 30k was at the track or fully built and beat on . Good luck
I would go with your first option simply because of the low miles. Either ways you won't really know how each car was driven. if there's any maintenance receipts that might help a little but even then people do their own maintenance sometimes.
The dealer said he got the evo 8 with 38k from a female driver. I dont know if he was bull****ing me but if it was then I doubt it was tracked.
I think im going to buy it because the only thing that will stay in is the head/block. Plan on doing bigger turbo, intercooler/piping, cams, injectors, intake, tbe, basically the whole works.
Thanks for the help, i plan on posting pics of all my work, and i live a minute walk away from Pacific Raceways so ill b posting videos.
