260 to a tank was my very best on a road trip, my evo is very close to stock though.

What injector and fuel setups do you have? Might've missed it.

I usually go almost 300 miles per tank. Average around 24 mpg but most of my driving is 65 mph cruising.

1150cc injectors, Walbro 255 modded. Remember, injectors are scaled...

Also, it's probably a lot easier to get good MPG on a super laggy huge turbo since you don't spool til 4-5k RPM, therefore it's like driving an NA car at 3-4k RPM.

No, no... I understand the concept of how fuel injection works. Your comparison between RPM and gears is what I don't understand.

If I'm in 3rd gear at 20% throttle, I'm probably doing 30-35mph. How on earth could I be at 50% throttle in 4th gear, and still go the same speed. Bad analogy.

lol well you'll be accelerating of course..

for example, going uphill, you are trying to accelerate up it, you can be in 3rd gear and use 20% throttle to get up it, but if you're in 4th gear at the same speed, you'll need 50% (or whatever) throttle to get up it.

^ thats why.

And it really depends on how your evo is tuned and to some degree your setup. Most evos can be tuned for LOTS of advance but only OFF BOOST. As soon as boost starts most tuners are going to aggressively ramp down the timing to keep you from knocking. So for gas mileage its better to be in 3rd gear and at 5000rpm at -8psi than 4th gear at 3400 at 5psi. Using a boost gauge and using it correctly while driving will easily net you 20% gain in mpg. Boost gauges are not just useful to see if you hit target boost. I'm sure the people getting the best gas mileage here are just consciously or subconsciously using tips and tricks like that. No necessarily grandma drivers. You can still have quite a bit of fun with your car, but get great gas mileage in the times when you're just going from A to B.

Just got 24mpg mixed 70 highway 30 city. Walbro 255, tuned to 25psi. This tank included mostly granny shifting but also a few shannanigans.

Just hit my personal best of 392 miles on a tank of 91 last weekend! Crap I wish I would have had cruise control though! Next drill weekend I'm getting the 400 even if I have a line of RV's and mopeds riding my bumper.

Simple rules: drive easy, let off the gas as soon as possible when slowing/stopping, keep highway to 65 or less and steady, and avoid stop-n-go traffic/stop signs/stop lights [not really anything you can do about the last one though]. Oh yeah, and tuning your car for performance is more than just WOT.

Simple calculation: miles driven since last fill up / amount of fuel put in car.

Always fill the car up and you can assume that the starting point [how much fuel is in the car] is the same and therefore you can use the amount of fuel it takes to fill up as the amount that you used to travel whatever distance. If you do not fill up your car, then you cannot track fuel economy as accurately. Everything will equal out over time, but know what you got last tank is not possible.

One thing I have always found odd is Cobb's "economy" map. Why can't they just use the values appropriate for the cruising section in their normal map? I don't know either which is why I make my own map that combines the two in one map - highway cruising [fuel economy] and WOT [power].

All this talk about " miles per tank" means absolutely nothing unless you run out of gas then check the miles traveled.

Divide miles traveled by gallons used to get actual MPG.

That is all.

Recently got about 365 miles on all highway. Staying out of the boost about half the time (really hard to do... haha) and I would contribute some to the tires, Continental DWS Extreme Contact. Tires have high mpg description, maybe low rolling resistance. Anyways, that comes out to 28mpg, my personal best in any Evo... Not bad, maybe it'll challenge my Prius for the milage... hmmmm

Mods: GSC S1, full exhaust w/ cat, coilovers and running top shape at 166k miles!
