HVAC Control Swap -- still an issue

Hi all,
I finally swapped a new control unit in for my HVAC system. Temperature knob broke off a few years ago and I've been turning it with pliers ever since.

I did the "new gears" thing that made it a little easier to turn and hopefully won't break the new one. Still sticks a little at the transition point, but much better than before.

Finally gave up and bought a new head unit, install was very simple. New cables, switches, bulbs, etc. Just popped in and put on the front bezel.

Now something that I noticed that may have been there all along: my selector won't select floor. It will select properly between vent and defrost, but any of the floor settings do nothing. And the vents are always on. I can live with that arrangement since I still have defrost and vent working, but I'd like to know what's going on. Any ideas?

Do evo's use vacuum assist to move the doors or is it all mechanical?

Thanks,
Anthony

Crap. Then whatever is mechanical isn't moving my floor louver/door.

I read the HVAC HOWTO thread and want no part of changing out that core stuff.

Oh well, at least defrost still works

You can always try taking off the gears again and see if its aligned right because those gears are turned from the front panel knob rotates a flapper inside the Evaporator core.
