almost crashed my evo bc of Type S BOV
Ever since i've installed the Greddy Type-S bov, i've had some engine shut off problems. Idle was okay... but whenever i hit the clutch at low MPH or RPMS.... my engine will drop to 500rpms or lower and 1/2 the time my engine picks back up, and the other 1/2 my engine dies out.
WELL SCARY STORY::
I was on Beach Blvd in Huntington Beach California. I was merging onto a Freeway ramp that does the 180+ turn. So im taking the turn at around 30mph in 3rd gear and some cars appeared ahead of me. (keep in mind this ramp is a single lane thats pretty narrow) I press the clutch and all of a sudden i lost all power steering and power breaks. Of course i realized it was bc of my bov... but i tried hitting the breaks as hard as i could but it would hardly slow down. I couldn't turn the steering wheel either and i would've skidded the side of my car on the rail if i didn't turn on the car. I hit in the clutch and turned on the engine barely in time to get power steering back and avoid scarping my car.... or even avoiding a TOTALED accident.
I decided im fed up with my BOV. I've had too many stahling problems with it. Its currently still in the car... but it'll be out by tomorrow. I tried tunning it to avoid the engine drops... but still no luck. I heard you can take out the smaller spring and that helps. Ill try that.. and even if i stahl once.. im taking it out and adding the stock bov.
My friends in the car were freaking out! Im glad none of us got hurt and that my sweer baby evo didn't get any sratches or bumps.

Take out the smaller sring and you will have no more stalling problems. I experimented with mine with both springs and screw all of the way in to all of the way out, then with One sring and then the other. Just like Silver Surfer said, leave the large spring in and set the screw to about half way or a bit more out.
man that could be dangorous, something familiar happened to me, but it was because of battery..sso you know those moments when the ligh is about to turn red, and you think you can make it?? well i went for it, and before i even reached the stoplight my car had stoped, i couldnt brake so easily, and couldnt turn..i was scared i was gonna crash the cars coming from my right, they had to stop suddenly and yes i also got a lot a of ""F*CK YOU A**HOLE!!""
Ill try to take out the smaller spring. Some people don't recommend it though. Do you guys know whY?
If i stahl even once im going back to factory! Im driving all paranoid and i don't need that

Re: almost crashed my evo bc of Type S BOV
What does the car come with stock? A BOV or a BPV?
I am not sure on the Evo, but my past turbo cars did not benifit whatsoever from a BOV (running rich) but then again the air metering system and the ECU programming is probably much different in these cars.
What is the apeal of a BOV exactly? Assuming the sound is a given, but what about operation and performance?

I am running a 3 in turboback , hks rs intake , buschur UIP , s-afcii ,greddy profecb and some other goodies. But with these mods I have to run both springs in my bov. If you are close to stock or stock . I would highly recommend taking out the smaller spring and try it from there.
3rd gear doing 30mph? that could have also been a reason.. such low boost going through the BOV could have done it. but ya just like silversurfer says take the smaller spring out and set the screw about half way and your golden bro
Currently i only have a RMR intake. By next week ill have RMR dp and catback.
QUICKSHIFT i got a question for you. Until what point should i set both springs back into the bov? I think the max amount of mods im going to add to my car is...... intake, induction piping, catback, downpipe, IC piping. With all those mods should i still just keep one spring in there? Or at that point should i add both? Im guessing still just keep one of the two spring.... but i want ur input on it.

No with those mods you will need to intsall the other spring. The bov is good enough to run 1 spring on close to stock evo's , but when you start maximizing your boost and effeciency of the engine you will need to reinstall the other spring. I am curently running both springs with my cureent mods. I tried to run one spring and it didnt work . Would only hold up to 18 psi for me. But with different evo's it varies. I would recomend you remove the one smaller spring and try it there. This bov is awesome I tried some race gas and pumped boost up to 23 psi and it held quite well
yah im not gonna really play with the boost. It'll void my warranty. Im only gonna do BOLT ONS. Maybe even ECU tuning or something.
SO i think my plan is doing all the bolt ons first with the factory BOV. ANd once im done with bolt ons. IM gonna add my BOV
