CBRD used a Pierburg 3-port on mine. Said its what's used on gt-r's and Porsches and they prefer that over the grimmspeed. It is working great and is plug and play.
ECU controlled seems pretty solid. I didn't have to tune it though.
True that...

There's a big difference between the two though. The EBCS uses the ECU to control boost. The EBC is standalone and you adjust boost via the EBC itself (like the truboost).

His title says "Best EBC".

FWIW I prefer ECU-controlled boost as well.

My tuner was pretty adamant about the Grimmspeed EBC.
I wasn't complaining, just wanted my dual E85/93 maps

In his original post he mentions he is using AEM for his ECU. Kinda rules out ECU boost(OEM).

From what I have read you would need a laptop to switch between boost settings on the AEM, though I would imagine you can wire a trigger to switch between settings to one of the AEM's inputs. Don't quote me on that though as I am not too familiar with the AEM hardware and software.

Just help me out here...I have always wondered, with a manual boost controller, how does the air/fuel ratio change when you just turn boost up and down?

If you have your map tuned for it, you can make it so boost(load) changes maintain the same AFR that you want. Not a problem for most tuners.

I've tried the Greddy Profec (new one) and I have to say I'm impressed. Comparing it to my Hallman or being on ECU controlled I feel like its just as good and holds boost as well if not better then the Hallman. And for E85 users like myself there is a B setting for high boost.

I just got my 93 lo boost set. Once I switch back to E85 I'll get the hi boost dialed in.
