Exhaust Installed Happy Day, Boost Question involved

this is on an EVO 9

From the top,

I ordered a Perrin intake, ETS LICP, Megan Resonanted Test Pipe, HKS Sport Cat Back, ProSport EVO Boost and Oil Pressure gauges, and AEM Wideband Gauge. Also Bought a used Buschur Downpipe.

The exhaust was on back order for about 2 months. So I threw on everything else as I received it.

Perrin Intake and ETS LICP went on together, then the gauges a few days later. I noticed that the Boost was only going to 17psi. Sometimes 18psi, but barely. I didn't get to boost leak test yet, but the car ran fine. I was doubting the accuracy of the prosport boost gauge. A friend suggested the bigger LICP was causing a pressure drop compared to the tiny stock pipe. Any thoughts on that idea?

Then I finally got all my exhaust pieces and put them on yesterday. Car rips like crazy now and is hitting 20psi without a problem. I'm still going to do a boost leak test, but I'm wondering, did the LICP actually take some pressure that the bigger exhaust was able to make up for?

Just for something to laugh at, I forgot to tighten the plug I had in for the wideband bung (didn't have time to finish installing wideband yesterday). So i felt stupid with my terrible sounding exhaust leak as I pulled into my driveway with all my neighbors staring...

Also have to say I love the HKS Sport sound. Its very quiet for idle and slow driving, but has a good tone when you get on it. Was worth the wait and was only $400.

Lemme know what your thoughts on the low pressure. I wish I had the boost gauge in before I did the LICP.

Im not sure I follow your logic regarding the pressure loss. Regardless, it is a good idea to perform a boost leak test. It should really become part of your routine preventive maintenance. You would be surprised how many leaks you find in random places such as the throttle body shaft seals, injector seals vacuum lines and or course around the couplers for your intercooler piping.

Had a 2g gst with 50trim. Plus all the turbo cars my brother's had we have every size boost leak tester. I just didn't get to do it yet. I will. I know I'm gonna have throttle body leak. It's got 84k miles.

Buschur pipe fit perfect. Not a fan of the no gasket on o2 housing part though. I can hear a tiny sputtering leak. I'll take some pics in a few days. I snapped one of the bolts for the under bracket and have to chisel the welded nut off now.
I've decided I want cbrd to tune it. But it will probably be a while cause I gotta get a few things yet. Oh, and money lol.

Unless the car was tuned prior to installing these mods you seem to be hitting the right boost targets at WOT. The LICP will flow better than stock, so unless you have a loose clamp or a hole in a coupler you shouldn't see any pressure drops. Prosport boost gauges are pretty good IMO, never had a problem out of mine and neither does a few other friends of mine, their AFR gauge isn't all that hot though.

Just my .02 but I would consider installing a Grimmspeed 3 port EBCS before CBRD tunes the car, they're cheap, install is stupid easy, and the added benefits are well worth the investment.

Ya the 3 port and a sally 255 are on my list. Although cbrd suggested a different ebc that they preferred. I have to look into that yet. Forget the name. I also don't want to get it tuned and think, damn should have done an o2 housing

o2 housing is definitely worth it! Bit of a pain in the *** to install but the sound and decreased spool time is worth the investment.

we recommend pierburg valves over the grimmspeeds etc- and keep them in stock (probably the only thing we keep in stock besides oil hee he)

we would be more than happy to help-
