Thoughts on purchasing an evo

I'm thinking of purchasing this evo http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2006-Mitsubishi-Lancer-Evolution-MR-Fully-Built-600-HP-55k-miles-60k-INVESTED-/290970892358?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item43bf377846#ht_39414wt_975I was wondering what evo guys in the know might think of the mods asking price etc
Thanks for your help
David

Clean retail value in nada is 21.3k so they are trying to make some money nacl on modifications. However that's a **** load of work and I think its worth it IF AND ONLY IF they can prove the work was done, receipts or otgerwise. Also clean title? I have talked to thr guys over there at texas hot rides before and they were very friendly they seemed like a nice dealershio to work with.

Keep in mind no one builds an evo like that and doesn't either race it or take it to the track

I would get an Evo that hasn't been nodded that much or returned to stock cause once it runs into issues you may not be able to handle it.

Bold. Mine is also for sale, and I hae all of the paperwork to prove it. A built motor isn't something you can easily inspect, so make sure they can provide details.

Personally I wouldn't buy a built car like that. Too many unknowns. Even if they show you who did the work....unless its a reputable shop you can speak to and vet all the work done and get some buy off from the shop about the history....you could be buying a headache.

Also I built my car like that and I don't track or race it. So not everyone pours money into their car to abuse it.

I wouldn't buy it. Anytime you buy a built car you don't know who did the work or the quality of there work. If you are looking to get into and Evo i would look for one a lot less modded.

I wouldn't do it either. Mainly because you don't know where/how the parts were installed and how it was tuned or who for that matter. Things like this break. And really, do you need that much power anyway?

Whenever you are buying a built Evo; it's mandatory you find out which shop built it, can/will they vouch for the work and get receipts for all the work/parts.

If you have the knowledge and tools a thorough inspection can tell you if there is an issue. A bore scope will let you know if the block is in good shape along with a compression and leak down test. If you are very conservative get an oil sample and send it to Blackstone for analysis. Go for a drive as well. A 10 mile drive will show any real issues with the car chassis. You can also see what rods an pistons are in there by pulling the plugs and the drain plug with the bore scope. It is just a car that you should prepare yourself for the Maintenance costs. It will be easier to afford however if you didn't pay the big cost for the initial build.
