Does this sound like a good deal?

I have a pretty extensive trade offer going on with a local evo owner.
He had the engine and head in his 03' evo taken out and built by buschur. The head and engine have 0 miles on them.

Engine:
- 2L bored .20 over
- line honed with arp mains
- fully cleaned/surfaced/painted
- balance shaft delete
- weisco 10.5:1 coated pistons with asymmetrical skirts
- k1 stock length rods
- balanced and polished crank
- acl bearings all around

Head:
- ported
- flattened (lightly decked)
- 5 angle valve grind
- bronze guides
- black nitride coated super tech valves (stock size)
- kiggly beehive springs and ti retainers
- bc 272's (will be changed to s3's shortly after purchase)
- H11 head studs
- ARP cam bolts
- new OEM intake and exhaust studs
- new OEM head gasket
- new OEM timing belt
- water pump has 5000 miles on it

Also included:
- quartermaster 8 leg gear drive twin with hydraulic tob (200 miles on it)
- buschur double pumper with (2) walboro 255's (1000 miles on it)

As if that's not enough:
- Shep 'Ultimate Ratio Trans' (200 miles on it)
- Shep stage 1 t-case (200 miles on it)

The engine, head, t-case, and trans had 80k miles on them before rebuild.

So the deal is that he wants $5k plus my stock engine, stock trans, stock t-case, stock clutch, and stock fuel pump all with 44k miles on them.
He wants to put his car back to stock so he can sell it.

So, okay deal, good deal, steal, or no deal?

Part for part, it seems good. From my experience, the parts and labor for the motor alone would be able 5-6k, give or take

I would ask for receipts for all parts and labor performed. I'd ask for paperwork showing the balance and blueprint of the motor, transmission, etc.

Lastly, ask yourself what your goals are, and if this is something you actually want.

Thanks for the input Chu,

I have receipts for $1600+ in machine work as well as receipts for the trans and t-case.
I'm looking to run e85 on this build so the high compression on this engine is pretty much just what I was looking for. And I'm not sure on power goals for now because I'm going to run stock turbo until the spring, but after that I'm going to be looking for 700+ awhp with street manners.

I dont think its a good deal. Stock running motor can catch you ~3500 easily. 5k on top, meaning his motor is worth 8.5k bucks.

That was my thought at first, but built trans and t-case are also included, plus the $1700 clutch kit and $500 (or whatever it sells for) double pumper kit.

Well, you have to think about it as a package. He's getting a built trans and tc with the deal, which cost a decent amount of money to do. I'm not say good deal or not, just stating the fact that the deal is for more than just the motor.

If you plan on going big, I would take the trade. Make sure the trans/tcase has had work done though.

He has the receipts from Shep and I have seen both off of the car along with the clutch. The only miles on the trans, t-case, and clutch are the miles he drove from Shep's shop back to home (about 200 miles). And this was on stock engine / evo 9 turbo.

Seems like a good deal to me. Also factor in that its all done in one sweep, dont have to wait for a build to take place and all that.

That's what makes it so appealing to me. And he's local so I don't have to worry about shipping expenses and problems.

It's just good to get some reassurance from the community before dropping the cash.

With 0 miles on the motor built by BR, does it come with any warrantee of any kind?

There isn't really a warranty on anything except defective parts for the trans, t-case, and engine. And all of those warranties will transfer to me.

That's a wicked deal. I'd jump on it ASAP

Especially since I basically just bought all that and it cost way more then $5k

So, I did it. The engine, trans, and t-case are in my garage now.
Some things I've noticed, and I'm just looking for some insight from the community:

- The water pump is not new. It has 5k miles on it. Should i replace it anyways?
- The idler pulley has 12k miles on it. Replace?
- Stock cam gears on BR 272's, is there any real advantage to aftermarket cam gears if I don't plan on mechanically adjusting timing at this point?

Anything else I should look at / check / replace before I actually do the swap?
