I use my jack and jackstands on the pinch rails all the time. When jacking from the rear I'll use the rear diff. I do always keep a hockey puck on my jack and have jackstand pads so everything still looks perfect after 3+ years and 64k miles worth of mods & maintenance.

Yep, you posted it in response to one my questions. I figured I might as well re-use someone else work, than do it over

Unless you are parked on a bowling alley, the surface under the car is not flat or level.

and does your car sit on all 4 stands?

right, so are we saying the chassis is so stiff there is no sag from the weight to sit on all for stands? again, my car has never sat on all 4 stands evenly.. always one in the rear that's totally loose by a couple millimeters, no contribution at all to the weight support

I have to ask, are all 4 jack stands at the same height?

I've never had an issue putting it on four stands. The rake changes a bit but that's because of how the suspension is set. Never bent a pinch rail either.

lol yes - though i don't doubt there may be a mm of difference between their heights just from manufacturing imperfections or whatever. whatever the case, the heights are close enough to the point where, if the chassis were going to sag down to it, it should touch the stand.

my point is this - i left my evo on "four" stands for 3 months, and it never sagged down to the 4th stand - i.e., this car always sat on 3 stands

I'm still trying to understand how physically one side of the car is not touching a jack stand...

Beyond that, are you pinch rails visually damaged?

Have tried using the jack stands with the frame. If the frame doesn't touch all 4 jack stands then I would say that is more of a reason to worry than with the pinch rails.

Yes I have had my Evo on jack stands for 9 months. I did have a similar problem. Usually what I do is raise a corner while there are three jack stands. The jack can then lift the Evo a little higher this way. Then I raise the jack stand so its a little higher than the rest.

If I look at this as a statics problem then there is no concern if you have three jack stands supporting the Evo while the four is there for peace of mind/saves your life in case of an Earthquake.

i'm not concerned; i'm trying to determine if this just plain shows how stiff the evo chassis is - i can't imagine that, with variations in floor, jack, pinchpoints etc, there has to be some millimeter or two of difference between the highest and lowest right? like a wobbly table with just the slightest difference. you don't expect the table to bend under the weight of that corner and stretch to touch the floor. i'm wondering if the same is happening with the evo - it's not stretching to touch down on that last corner. basically what i'm interested in is why the 4th corner doesn't sag down - it seems like it's because the chassis is just that stiff.

yeah, like you said - no concern with this, i accept that there may be minute differences in the system enough where the car wouldn't be touching all 4 - the fact that it never sagged down to the 4th in 3 months of staying jacked up on 3 jacks is what interests me more. there was about a millimeter wiggle room for the 4th stand - it never dropped even that much to touch it.

i'd actually be more worried if, while the car was on stands at the pinchpoints, all four corners were putting their weight on the stands. you have to think there's at least a millimeter (look at your ruler) of difference between the lowest levels of the 4 spots on the pinch rail when you jack up your car - so, even with the smallest of height differences, your car is putting weight on every stand, then the chassis is flexing, even that small amount, to rest its weight on all of them

Take all of the chassis bars off then try it.

Though, now I'm starting to wonder how many of these aftermarket bars are worthless.

I know you touched on some stuff in your thread here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...eakpoints.html

the tldr of that thread is:
- fender bars work but throw you in prep class
- full cage is the only thing that significantly stiffens the chassis
- harness bar may have some impact because it connects the hollow, weakest area of the car
- everything else doesn't work
