Battery Acid Corrison? Need help. (pictures)

Hey evom, I need some feedback. So I finally purchased another evo this week and decided to do some of my own maintenance on the car today. First thing that I noticed is that the battery may have been leaking. The battery is about 3-4 years old, but when I cleaned it I could not see any sign of leaking. I am guessing it would have to be under a lot of heat? Well, the bracket started to become deformed and some white/yellow stuff was falling everywhere.

So I was wondering if I should go ahead and get a new battery or could this be something that I don't know of? Also, where can I get another mounting bracket? If anyone has one to spare/for sale, send me a pm. The car did not come with a positive battery terminal cover, where can I find an OEM one?

I took pictures of how dirty it looks around there and also around the intake. Took everything apart and cleaned it.

Thanks for looking.

Mix baking soda with water and pour onto affected parts until bubbling stops then rinse with water (don't pour on top of the battery). When dry apply a coating of grease - spray on or chassis grease. In the battery tray sprinkle dry soda. If the battery is obviously leaking, replace it.

^^^^, if you like it sticky, you can use Coke as well. The drink not the drug! it will also neutralize the acid--will still need to rinse it all off. GL

Thanks for the feedback guys. Luckily I have a brand new Bosch battery on my daily driven Altima that will be going into the evo! I'll use this battery on the Nissan to see if anything happens to it again. As far as the positive terminal cover, I found it for sale and it was pretty easy to find ^^. Now, I'll just have to find the a bracket that is not destroyed like mine.

Off topic, but how often would you guys recommend switching the filter on a Perrin Intake. Mine was covered in oil, so a catch will definitely be needed in the near future. But not sure if spending 50 on a filter would be needed.

Thanks again for the replies.

No need to switch the filter, it's meant to be re-useable.
Here's Here's
the cleaner kit that Perrin sells for use with this filter. I clean mine every oil change/5000 miles. All you need to do is spray the filter with the cleaner (I would do this outside. The cleaner is pretty nasty, so the area should be well ventilated), let it sit/soak for a little bit, spray it off with water, dry it off (I usually pat it down thoroughly with paper towels and let it sit outside to dry completely if I can), then give it a light coating of oil. You don't want to soak it with oil. I usually just spray one medium coat.

After cleaning the battery off and respraying the bracket off what you need is a battery insulator which deflects the heat coming from the engine bay for added protection its also catches the acid. Its from defi I think I will post up a pic in a few
