Evo Impounded, Worst Night Ever

Basically thought I'd share this with you guys since I've never experienced this before and don't know what to do.

Last night I'm driving around coming off a ramp from the highway onto a main road. I was caught in the middle where I had to decide quickly whether to slam my brakes on the off ramp and risk someone rear ending me or to accelerate so that the oncoming car wouldn't have to slow down. I choose the ladder and then start to go the speed limit on the road as I drive it every day to work and know cops basically spawn there. Naturally, the car behind me on the main road was a state trooper. I didn't realize this until he turned on his lights maybe 15 seconds after I was on the main road. I then turn my blinker on to signal I'm pulling over but go about 75 yards to a closed gas station so he doesn't have to get out in the middle of the road. So I sit there for a few minutes and he comes over and takes my license and reg while asking the whole "do you know how fast you were going/what the limit is blah blah blah"....Comes back 5 minutes later and asks me "how old are you? what do you do for work?". I tell him I work at the store down the road. He then starts to shine the light into all the windows and look around. At this point I'm assuming that since he asked where I worked and looking in every window he assumed I was some type of drug dealer. I tell him if it makes him happy he can search the car I have nothing to hide. He doesn't respond. He then asks me to start the car, tells me my muffler is illegal and I'll be cited for that to. Then points out my OEM Evo 9 tail lights are also illegal. As he walks away he tells us "Not to move, we might get bit" (referring to the dogs. At this point I feel he's just harassing me. Sometime throughout this exchange another statie shows up and they go back to his car and spend the next 20-30 minutes laughing their asses off being completely unprofessional. THEN, a flatbed comes out of nowhere. He tells me to get out and my registration was expired as of Aug 31 so the car will be towed. Hands me my ticket and tells me to "get walking". I then ask him where the car is going and how to get it back. He tells me to renew the reg online and go get it. I then have to walk 2 miles home at midnight.

Now this morning rolls around and after renewing my reg online right after getting home, I go to get the car. It's sitting in this lot and the gate is blocked by a massive big rig. The guy working on it says he needs 10 minutes so i wait and he then angles the truck outward giving me barely enough room to get out. As I start to pull out I clip the aluminum wheel fender of the big rig. I get out, look, theres a small scratch/dent but at this point I just want to get the hell out of there. I back up, straighten out a bit and hesitate to go but he gives the thumbs up so I assume I'm clear. Pulling forward the rear passenger door clips the bobcat that was right there and now has a pretty good sized dent and orange paint. I'm so angry at this point and the tow company guy says he'll contact his insurance about it and get back to me monday....

In short, what would you do in regards to the tickets and insurance repairing the door?

I think the no registration your going to have to pay since you didn't have the car registered. As far as the impound yard you should have told them to take the car out, they can say you caused your damage because you were driving the car. Hopefully that isn't the case and their insurance pays for the repairs.

Take off your wing and things like this won't happen. Don't put stickers or hang tow hooks and toys on your bumper. Don't attract attention by looking like a ricer. Taking my wing of was the best thing ive done to my evo.

Also, let this be a lesson to keep your documentation up-to-date. Do not give a LEO any excuses to ticket you or punish you, if he popped you for speeding, fine, take the hit, but don't drive with expired tags, license, registration, or no insurance.

As much as what happened to OP sucks, that's pretty much the impression I was getting too other than the bit about the taillights.

Funny thing is I'm actually wingless...not a single sticker, tow hook, or anything like that. The "speeding" was bull because he had no radar and I know I wasn't going 55-60 because that would put me coming off the ramp at 80...which, at the angle of the ramp, is physically impossible. The registration I may have to take the hit unless I get an understanding judge. As for the exhaust, he never had any decibel reader or anything of that nature, therefore his claim was based off what he 'saw' not what he can prove in court. Isn't the burden of proof on him? As I'm supposed to be innocent until PROVEN guilty....and the only thing he could PROVE is my expired tags...

This is all I needed to read, drive like an ***, get treated like one..

Anyway yes a modified exhaust is illegal in MA, you just got to be clever about it

If the taillights are indeed OEM that's an easy win.. actually they're both easy wins if you know what to say/do.. if you were cited. I've been to court way to many times to count over "illegal modifications"
