EVO vs. STI next year?
We all know the EVO will be here in Dec-Jan. But I think it will have some competetion, the Subaru STI.
I read an article thats says the WRX will get a facelift and be on display at the Paris Auto show in September. The new look WRX will be on sale overseas in January.
Since Subi already allocated the 2003 WRX for the US, could a new look STI come here as a new model 2003.5 or 2004 early next year?
I think it would be a perfect time for Subi to do that and have a battle with the EVO.
Something to think about.

I spoke to a Scooby rep at the Long Beach Sema show last month and asked him about the STI.He said it would come in Sept of 03 as an 04,261 hp,about $35k,but only a quantity of 750.

yes, the STi is coming to the states to compete with the evo. subaru would be dumb not to bring it.

Don’t know the WRX well and of course very few will know the Evo 8 yet. I do know the STi and am familiar with the Evo 7.
The finish and ride of the STi is much, plusher. The build quality feels slightly better to me. If I was doing a lot of mileage and found the power enough for me I would buy a Scooby. As a daily drive it is less frantic and is less likely to give you a heart attack.
The performance and handling of the Evo 7 is more to my liking. The power comes much earlier and feels bigger. It certainly inspired greater confidence for me and had me going faster. After driving this car to work you will likely need a quiet darkened room to sit in before you interact with people.
There seems to be a general consensus that the Evo is capable of higher power with less investment. With better suspension it can be made much more comfortable with further gains in handling. Perhaps Mitsubishi cut corners with the suspension.
To the Scooby fans that want to bite my head of, I am not down on this car. It is an awesome machine. Either car is an excellent choice. I am only stating my personal impression and preference.

Both will be fantastic cars. I am very happy the US is finally getting a new generation of JDM cars like the WRX (STi), Evo, Z, and hopefully a forthcoming Supra, Skyline, RX7, and next gen NSX. Spirited WRX bashing is cool, but remember that for every WRX sold there is one less SUV or minivan on the road....

Evo baby...but the new headlights and trunk of of the STi are kind hot and both cars should be pushing around the same hp and torque. Ihave my down on an evo already but it'll be interesting to see what an STi will come with.
