spark plugs and ignition help!!!
whatsup everyone, so ill start off with purchasing an evo was an awesome decision. this car is everything i could ever ask for and some. Ive had my car since early june and i cant get enough of it. Heres why I am here. My car has the following mods
gt35r kit
custom exhaust manifold
full tbe
tial 44mm wg
1000cc injectors
comp 280/280 cams
fluidampr harmonic balancer
fpr
uicp
hks ssqv
aem standalone v1
so heres my issue. Im running ngk bpr8es spark plugs (1 step colder than stock) i purchased the car and it was tuned on these plugs. ive been blasting thru plugs like no other. the car runs awesome when the plugs are new but im breaking up on my higher rpm's (6400+) i know with copper plugs i should be doing my plugs with every oil change but it seems im going through them faster. now sean ivey at ivey tune tuned this car in october of last year. so pretty much the car should be running its best right now but its not. i dont know what gap i should be at on these plugs ive been trying anywhere from .24 to .28. should the gap be different because the plugs are a step colder? should i go back to the stock plugs?? my buddy has a similar build to mine and he makes more power than i do and hes still using bpr7es. any recomendations on different plugs? any reccomendations on where my gap should be with the plugs i have now?
Another thing ive been also looking into is should i upgrade my coil packs? could the coils not be putting out enough for my car? any reccomendations on iginition systems?
It sucks cause ivey has me locked out of my stand alone so i cant do any datalogging. if i cant convince him to unlock it im gonna have to find a different tuner.
Thanks everyone hopefully ill get a few responses

How much power is your car making? The OEM and BPR7ES plugs easily handle 500whp without issues. Running the step colder shouldn't be a problem either. I do know some people prefer the BR*ES over the BPR*ES plugs...the difference is the protuding tips. For spark gaps, I think .24 is a good range. Depending on your mileage, you should check to make sure your coil packs and ignition wires are good also.

If your breaking up , simple reduce the gap until it stops. 20, 22, 24 something around there should work. I would also recommend that if you make a change to something and it causes a problem and you dont know exactly what the issue is that you put everything back to its original state and leave it alone until you do enough research to work it out. Your tuner tuned the car based on a specific build, if you start changing parts-- he is no longer responsible for the outcome ie how it runs.
i dynoed 405/320. and yeah thats what my buddy was tellin me about the stock plugs im prob gonna grab a set just to see how they do. and my car has 12,900 original miles on it (05 tb evo 8) so i doubt the coils are bad but most certainly a possibility. again the car drives fine but once i try to stretch her past 6500 she brakes up .
