To sell or not to sell
Keep it man. If you enjoy the car you wont find any other car like it. I have been going back and forth too but nothing like the 8/9. Even the Evo X is a lot different.
Buy a trans and get it fixed. MitsuJoe or Antilag racing can get it installed for a good price. You could do a 6sp swap and buy my trans lol.

Thats about what you would loose on selling the car as is. So if you are thinking of upgrading to a Evo X then you aren't TRULY broke. You may be cash poor but even with a 10k down payment (assuming you don't owe anything on the car currently). You'll still have a note. If you don't owe anything on it......2500 you're done. Instead of 10k downpayment and a 48-72 month car note. If you do owe on the car still then you will have less to put down and more monthly commitment........both those scenarios don't sound smart financially.
Now if you just don't want to fix it because you regret buying a salvage title, or a barebones Evo and miss the creature comforts.........or just plain want a newer car......nothing wrong with that, it just sounds like financially now is not a good time for that either.
Bottom line if you are cash/financially strapped the smartest move is to keep the Evo and fix the transmission. If you just want a different car and don't want to deal with the hassle of pulling the transmission (or paying someone to do it which will be about 600-700 without fluids for labor on top of the repair of the transmission) and you can do it financially......have at it.

^ all those fixes are getting you down. I can understand. A X would be (literally) a turn key solution. Depends on what you are looking for some people prefer the IX or VIII to the X

Paid cash for it so nothing is owed on it. It's not money or actually doing the work to fix it. I live in an apartment complex that my neighbor ( another evo owner) and I always get complaints from the apartment complex working on the car. Also it's just one thing after another with this car for me. Not worried about a car note either. And trust me, it's not that Im made of money but car has been a headache. Turbo went out after 3000 miles of owning it. T case went out just fixed that a week ago and now the trans. One after another.
It sounds like you pretty much want to get rid of your RS either way. If it were me, I would get the tranny rebuilt - that will make it a little easier to sell. Then look start looking into either a clean IX or X, since that is what you are looking for. When you are ready to buy, stay away from r-titles!
Thanks everything!
I wish I worked hourly at times like this! I work 100% commission selling health and life insurance. But I am keeping it!!! All of you are right. It's paid off and to spend 1000 bucks on a used tranny or take a 20000 loan is a no Brainer. I'm going to have a core for almost everything haha. Maybe I'll find a clean VIII or IX down the road.
Thanks everything!

So i was sitting there with thousands to shell out for a car I love but wondered if it made sense to keep putting $$ in since I have been lusting for either a Nissan GTR or Tesla Model S performance model. I came real close to pulling the trigger on the Model S (My insurance was ridiculously lower if I got the S).
After I came to my senses and realized I have enjoyed not having a car payment for the first time in 10 yrs and wanted to keep it that way. This is ultimately how I justified my current build (cause after all I didn't buy a 100K car right
). Now I am at 108K mi and doing a complete 2.3L build with FP green and E85 and all feels right in the universe again. It was interesting to see this thought process unfold for another as I just went thru the same thing. My case was a little different - I am original owner- bought new off the lot in Dec '07. Kept it stock for the last 5.5 years except a stage 2 clutch when the OEM went out at 49K. I was rear ended to the tune of 15K in damage which insurance covered - but when tranny needed rebuilt (reverse was locked out) they totaled the car out and cut me an even bigger check which I used to pay off my Evo and my wife's car. Got the car back after tranny rebuild and then threw a bearing and spread shrapnel all thru engine scoring cams etc.
