M8 sorry ik not answering your question but need to pick your brain. I have 4g63 out of evo 8 but in a 5. I am thinking about doing 2.3 stroker short block. I already have co rods in it suited for this. Do I just have to do the krank and pistons or will it need bored out?

Go to a junkyard and find another 4g64 engine and buy it up...there are a plethora of them in the junkyards.

evo5, yes crank and pistons will be the bare necessities, but you will need to check the bore for out of round and taper, and be sure that the PTW will be suitable. It is generally recommended that it be bored for a fresh start to ensure no issues. Also, if there are stock rods in that engine, don't bother using them, upgrade to at least some hbeams.

AWDMOTORSPORTS sells blocks. I know Wiseco will make pistons up to 87.5mm for the 4g64 blocks. I have a set of 87.25mm being built and expected to be finished Tuesday. Took 3 weeks to make and were $600.

All sorts of cars.

Galants, chariots, rvr's.

Go to pick a part and they'll be all over the place, cheap as if you pull one yourself.

If these blocks are so cheap and it's a good replacement for the 2.0. How come so many stroke the 2.0 instead of buying a 4G64? Are the blocks not as strong?

I'm following too to find out more about these blocks.

It may be because it takes a bit more work to install, well that is if your installing it under a mivec head though. also people will tell you that the 2.4 cant rev. to each of those concerns i did not care to listen to and i went with a 4g64 and i cannot be happier with my decision.

What makes it harder to install?

Well if its an evo 9 you will need a new mivec oil line for the head since the block is somewhere like 10mm +/- 2 taller then the 4g63 block. MAperformance sells the new line though.

The water pump hole on the block is also different so again MAPerformance has a space that you will have to use and then double the gaskets along with some grey gasket maker to make a 4g63 water pump work.

Because the block is taller you will have issues with your timming belt weather you go with an oem 4g63 or the 4g64 timing belt you will need an adjustable exhaust cam gear and then either advance it like 3 degrees advanced or back depending on which belt you go with. the difference between the two belts is that the 4g64 belt is 1 tooth longer the the 63 belt.

I currently have my motor apart and may post a how to when i put it all back together for a 4g64 build just because i cant find any good ones on here with all needed info.
