I've noticed this intermittent noise from my evo IX. The noise happens both while driving and sitting in the garage just revving the motor, so it's not wheel bearings.

My best description of the noise would be similar to if you've ever heard Dyno rollers come to a stop, but obviously not as loud. Basically a metal on metal grabbing sound, not really grinding though, just metal rubbing.

So if I rev my car in neutral (ill check if the sound is there with clutch depressed tonight) the noise comes as the rpms drop back close to idle. I do have TOB noise (oem tob with CC stage 2 clutch and Torque Solution motor mounts) that transfers into the cabin on decel and revving but this is different. I will try my best to capture this noise tonight with my camera, but basically I'm looking for ideas on where to start diagnosing. Any ideas are appreciated

I'm pretty sure this is the issue all IXs have. There is a sticky on it in the engine/turbo/drivetrain section called IX engine idle noise.

I'm familiar with that thread and I don't think that's the problem. The noise in that thread is constant, mine doesn't make noise until you rev it up and as it comes back down it makes a slight noise then goes quiet and repeat... I'll try to film it tonight if I can
