How much to fix paint damage?

A car I am looking into has had some "minor" sun damage to the paint. I was wondering how much it would cost to repaint or repair the clear coat. No custom job, just repairing or repainting to match original color. But no paint needed in the engine bay, just issues from sun damage. The stock hood is just as bad as the roof, but included. That said, Here are some pics...

Ouch, that looks a little painful. I would suggest you try to ask some local shops around you to see how much they would charge. They might be able to give a rough estimate with the pictures.

Yeah, that is what I thought. The car is pretty close to my so I thought I would ask. 5-8k is bonkers though! If it is truly that expensive, he will have that car for a long time!

I'd say do vinyl wrap if you can't stand the way your car looks.

Not bashing the guy, but how could someone not care that much. Even a cheap parts store wax would have prevented all of this.

I think thats beyond just clear man. I needs a new paint job imo, or at least thats what I would tell ya if you came to me to repaint. That thing has really sat out in the sun. Ive never seen an evo 9 look so bad for paint honestly lol.

You could vinyl wrap the car, but I honestly think you would have to sand the clear down smooth where its chipped away, to feather it out. Then lay the vinyl.

So at that point, your at the point, you could just have the car repainted. A car being repainted gets expensive. The electric blue paint is expensive just for the basecoat. Your looking at around $1000 in materials alone for electric blue base, a sealer, and a clear.

Anyways, I would go to some shops and get some quotes for a full respray. No jambs or bay like you stated.

Good luck!

Buying an evo with issues - even cosmetic - is never a good time. Unless you know the ins and outs of repairing the old girl, it's never usually a good idea.

that's closer to 2-4k depending on the quality of the job, not 5-8k. you're not respraying any door jams or anything like that, it's all exterior

but that car was neglected...
