Should i buy an evo? Please help

Hey all. Now before you get your pitchforks and torches and get ready to throw them at me hear me out. I am a diehard dsm fan. Currently my DD is an 04 lancer ralliart. I love the car and have almost put on 100k miles while owning it. Love the car but sadly it just isn't enough. Modified mildly but you can't fix fwd and I just don't see the point in throwing anymore money at car that is not designed to be a race car. Currently I am about to head off to Afghanistan being a member of the Wisconsin army national guard. I am starting my research now for my welcome home toy. For a long time I have drooled over evos and finally I might have one. This doesn't mean I will as there are other options out there. Namely subarus. I am coming here to get some additional convincing that an evo is the car for me. Obviously I know only I can make that choice but I am looking to see why others chose the evo. My requirements for my next car is simple awd and turbocharged with a Market that has easy access to modifying. Awd is necessary for Wisconsin winters and this will be my new dd with me still holding onto the ralliart for long trips and for my wife. My preferred evo is a IX MR but I am nervous about getting a six speed with all of the fourth gear issues. So enough blabbing out of me. If you have anything to say please tell me why in depth you went the direction you went and if I would get an evo what trim. I am a huge fan of acd but I know there are Individuals out there that recommend otherwise. Side note I plan on trying to keep this thread going for the whole year I am gone and I will use it to provide much needed sanity and the light at the end of the tunnel I am sure to need. Thanks guys.

Well first let start off by saying thanks for serving this country as you service men are the real hero's. I have owned my 05 evo right of the showroom floor and it is with out a doubt a awesome and fun car to own/modify. As you already know they take well to mods. Before owning my evo I had 3 BMW m3's, at the time when I bought my evo I still had my 1990 e30 m3 and my 1997 4dr m3 so one had to go ( the 4dr). I went with the evo because of all the great reviews as it was not only a fast 1/4 mile performer but a great handling car. I still think for the money there isn't many car's that can compete with the evo and yes not even a STI . The m3 handled great but so does the evo and my evo is a bit cheaper to modify then say my former bmw's. If you can find a nice clean example of an evo I would say buy it , you won't be disappointed. Be safe over there over seas and glw your search for your car of choice.

It depends on your wants. The Evo handles mods better then the Sub's and is a lot cheaper and easier to modify. It sounds like you like your lancer and want more from it so a Evo would be perfect. Now you want to take your time and find one in good condition otherwise you will spend money repairing that you could of put towards a better EVO. You can get a 8 for a lot cheaper than a 9 so if you wanting to mod it right away consider that.

Thanks for your service to! I am USAF stationed in Germany and I am lucky to have found a Evo 8 RS over here. I got to take it to the Nurburgring also! I love the car more and more everyday.

Also why are you making multiple threads on the same topic.

I recently went from an 04 Ralliart to a 06 evo 9. No regrets whatsoever. Although both cars use the CT9A chassis, it's a completely different car. the power, handling, and looks don't compare. I still have a lot of love for the ralliart though, it was my first car and I will never forget it. But if you have the opportunity to switch over, I'd say go for it.

Appreciate the comments guy. If you have been searching the general section you will notice I posted this thread twice under different names. Reason being I am using a phone app as it is more convenient to ignore my wife with evo daydreams. Jk. Actually when I posted this originally this app kept saying the thread already existed. I searched the title and nothing. Turns out the app was on crack and posted it. Please see the thread on evo or sti. Please help and I love the comments and trust me I am leaning evo but I am no fool. If I buy one I need to make sure I can pay cash and still have a solid chunk for minor upgrades and any repairs. The way I am looking at it once I buy one I won't sell it. I even made my wife swear doesn't matter how crooked our future children's teeth are and needing braces that car will not be sold. Lmao.

Holy freaking jealous. Nurburgring!!!! Literally I would wet my self. Thanks for your service too man. Love my lancer. Only thing I don't care for is the shifting and short fear ratio but with my mods I keep up with supercharged cobalts and civic si's all day. Time will be taken on buying it. Projecting six months of shopping. Thanks. Mods please delete this thread and sorry again for the error on my end.
