evo 9 (6-speed) to shepard racing (5 speed) swap

I have a 2006 evo 9 MR. I rebuilt the motor and changed from a 6-speed to a 5-speed shepard racing tranny with a 4.11 final drive. When i got my tranny, i got a tranny, fitments, and a shaft that goes into the transmission. Let me explain this more clearly..
I have a stock transfer case with a shaft that is already in there. So the axle should go right on. On the other side,(tranny side) The shaft(not sure if its called an axle shaft) that came with the order(with a set of splines on the ends) is suppose to go in it(the hole in the tranny). Ill post a pic up. My stock axles do not even fit on the splines!! Please someone tell me whats going on? I appreciate it.

Here's the shaft. And it's hard to take out. Hard to push in. I lined up the splines before putting the shaft in.

The shafts should go in, some times they need some convincing. Like a rubber mallet or a piece of wood over it and a hammer. But if it's isn't even making it in the littlest bit then those small shafts may be to worn.

thanks! the shaft is brand new and the tranny is brand new. Shepard Racing told me what to do, which I did, and I used the mallet and sledgehammer against wood. Still doesn't work. Im wondering why my stock axles don't fit the new shaft.

If your stock axle does not fit the shaft, why are you trying to install it? Do you still have the old one?

Are you installing it backwards?
The end with the internal threads faces out towards the drivers wheel.

Ok you all were right. It was the wrong side. My transmission guy told me the wrong thing so I hammered it in there. There was no damage to the splines so that's good. The way I took it out was by removing t - case and getting a jack handle and tapping it out, since there was no threads at the end. I appreciate it everyone!

Yea everything would have been downhill from then on. I learned that your never really suppose to force anything so that's what made me stop trying it the wrong way. I should have called Sherpad Racing instead of listening to my transmission guy..
