Evo IX used car pricing: Thousands over book value
That's not necessarily a bad thing. If you are a true believer you'll pay a little extra and the cars you see in the street won't be nasty abominations with ugly body kits, stretched tires and primer paint.
I paid a 18k for a smashed up repaired IX ( unknowningly, so my fault for lack of research) and the bank was like youre paying too much for that car. Thing is.. it was 3-5k less than comparable from the outside examples! I will be a returning Subaru customer on my next vehicle purchase. granted I love my evo..
Bought my black evo 9 for $10k in Feb 2013 with 99,750 on the clock. The car needed a lot of tlc
-cracked front and rear bumpers
-blown turbo
-shattered passenger window
-and a list of other small things that need to be replaced. The owner could simply not afford it anymore and I bought him out of his loan.
After about 1 year of fixing things up I would say the price is around $14,500 range I paid. That puts me into semi clean decently maintained evo 8 range. So I feel I made out well since evo 9 at the time were still in the 20k range.
Over all I think I got a good deal if I turned around to sell it I wouldn't ask more then $17-19k for it.
another example my old boss had a 2006 ww IX MR with 55k on the clock. He ended up selling his for $26,500 after only being for sale for two weeks. People just eat the IX up all day especially white ones.

18k for an 06 GG MR November 2013. 100K miles, buschur stage 1+swift springs+alpine head unit and twin amps+minor tasteful cosmetics all around. Almost excellent exterior, excellent interior.
"Best Price" dealer pricing does a good job of allowing private party market values to stay high.
So high in fact that I made a profit on the vehicle itself off my insurance when I stuffed my 2003 at the track in September. I paid $16,995 for it in 2010 with 50k, stuffed it with 106k, and received $17,600. I'd say that's kinda messed up, but who am I to complain, right?
I found my current IX for $18.5k, I've seen a number of decent IXs below $20k recently but it seems like it's just people looking to dump the car vs wait for someone to pay what they want for it.

I payed 32k back in 2009 for my ww ix with 30k miles. ended up crashing insurance payed me out and I got a 2004 8 rs, long story short now I have another IX in TB. 20k miles payed $29k.
Obviously the OP has never seen supra MK4 pricing. And before people say well that is different. How? It is the same concept, people willing to pay more than what it books for. Evos aren't the only cars and they won't be the last.
I am glad they are worth more than they are booked at. It keeps them out of reach from kids and people who can not afford them. If I had my way they would be worth a whole lot more.
If you are worried about insurance claims then pay a premium that will cover the actual market value of the car. I do this because to me my car is worth a lot more so I pay a higher premium to cover my car incase anything happens.

I believe it was 27k the dealership wanted more but I talked them down. Car only had 15k miles on it and worth every penny I drove the hell out of it
I loved the raw feel of the rs but wasn't too crazy about the colour options (colour is sort of a big deal to me). My tb ix I have now pretty much has the soul of an rs since I deleted half it's options lol

I paid $28,000 CAD (about $25,500 USD) in May 2012 for my GG IX SE
42,000 miles
2 previous owners (First was PERRIN_JOHN on the forum the other a local kid who had it for a year here in BC)
Exterior and Interior were mint except for a little curb rash of 2 of the wheels. It came with K&N intake + cf heat shield, boost solenoid, Exedy Stage II clutch, ACT steet lite flywheel, 720cc injectors, BBK Full, Cobb AP, HKS Cams, Pioneer head unit, amp and a cleanly integrated sub-woofer in the trunk. When I checked out the history of the car via it had coilovers, tbe, intercooler, Enkei NT03 and the spoiler was off for a while.
You pay a little more since there are fewer examples in Canada and you have to go through the process of importing it from the US and passing various inspections. Grabbing one locally certainly saves you some time and headache. I didn't mind the price as I've wanted an evo since I was 16 when got my first ride in a IV GSR. Been a long time waiting but certainly worth it!

Lots of Lulzs in this thread.
My VIII cost me 22-23k in 04-05 when I bought it, the car now is worth MAYBE 7-8k if I was lucky
Funny thing is I wouldn't sell it if someone offered me 30k.
My .02

Car is 100% clean titled, never been in an accident, paint is still in decent shape for a 10yr old car that was DD most of it's life. Bottom end, trans, TC, and rear have never been apart.
I am just realistic, It is a 10 year old car with 150K+ on it. Means way more to me then I could/would ever sell it for.
