Just curious as to whether most track(circuit,road,auto ross,time attack,rally) Evos 17" or bigger wheels? Thanks.

 

I can only really speak to NASA TT, but most NASA Evo 8-9s run 18x9.5 or 18x10 rims. NASA rules is limited to a 275 wide tire without a P/W penalty so most get a rim that fits under stock body panels and can fit a 275 Hoosier.

 

Yeah I did some research and was wondering why it's always a big wheel they use(18x10). Are stock body Evos capable of running a 18" wheel without body mods(pulling/rolling)

 

you will need to roll the rear fenders completely flat, pull them, and relocate the bolt on your rear bumper and cut an inch out of the bracket to fit a 18x10 wheel with a 275 or 285 width tire. i'm not too sure about the fronts, due to the fact that i have wider aftermarket fenders :P

 

I either want to do a 17x9 setup on 255's or go all out and run 18x10 on 275's. I'm still on damn stock suspension, I'm probably gonna go to swift lowering springs

 

On my evo 5 I just put on 18x9. 225/40/18.Body rub real bad and I hv adjustables. Now have w7ee body going on , varis. Will space wheels out 30mm to fill up new guards. Dont want to go to big on tyres as drags out your performance especially if street car. Im only at 420whp and it lights up into 3rd side ways without much effort at 24psi on e50

 

I don't want to run such thin tires. I'll most likely end up with a 17x9 on 255's and have fun with that.

 

When u say thin do u mean the width 225 or the profile 40? 40 profile is low but in nz as a street car, 225s are cosidered quiet wide on an evo

 

225 is even narrower than stock size for an evo VIII/IX.

Lol no problem man. Our stock size is 235/45/17 I want at the least to run a 255 tire with a 40 profile. There's people running 225's and smaller with a 10" wide wheel it's stupid.

 

Wow, I can't imagine running a 225 tire on an Evo. I've run 245 streets and they feel very narrow. If I could get away with it without the P/W penalty I'd run 285+ Hoosiers for the track.

 

I seriously want to run 265 on my street setup. Would I absolutely need upgraded suspension to run that tire with an 18x10 or 18x9?

 

17x9.5's here and possibly putting those on my s2000 and moving to 17x10 on the evo. tires are much cheaper that way than 18's and less fitment issues.

 

except on a 17in wheel you won't be able to run a BBK which is important to the TA or road race guys. So if you ever plan on upgrading brakes you may not want to do a 17in wheel. I have a set of 17x9.5 +22 with 255nitto nt05 collecting dust...
