looking to find lighter brake booster
anyone have a brake booster off car they can weigh? from what car? anyone already find a lighter booster already? seems the booster could be made from alloy or plastic but cant find one like that. did find an alloy hydro booster from bmw that looks like it might save weight if retrofit to car. should be more powerful as well. also looks as though turbo cars came with dual diaphram booster and non-turbo a single diaphram. looking for weights of either. thanks.

I found continental started making alloy boosters about a year ago. so I emailed them to see if I could track down what cars are getting them, or if I could buy a single unit. here is the response I got
Dear Mr. Dombroski,
Many thanks for your interest in Continental. The Booster is already installed in cars from German and American OEMs. Unfortunately our customers don't allow us to talk about more. Therefore I can't give you information concerning make and model where the booster is installed. We don't offer the booster as an aftermarket solution.

hey, I think your right. looks like from 2004-2010 bmw 5 and 6 series had alloy boosters. got approximate quote it weighs 4lbs. it a double diaphragm booster. I think 190e from 83-94 used an aluminum booster as well. single diaphragm. no weight yet. finally getting somewhere with this. now if someone could get actual weight of stock booster.

I just canned my booster after shelf sitting for 2 years!
I'm interested in hydroboost
There is a lot of great options for ps pumps but I'd never have the ability to figure out fitting that..
It looks like the supply line comes from the rack in hydroboost set ups so u only need an extra return line.
94 doesn't that seem like the way to go?

I fear the hydroboost may be too sensitive. although there are certainly ways to reduce leverage ratios. stopping huge truck tires is different than stopping lightweight performance wheels. single diaphragm boosters add up to 900psi to line pressure. double diaphragm can add as much as 1500psi. I would guess mitsu booster is around 1100-1200. the hydro setup adds 2000psi line pressure. for sure it would be the way to go on A/T setup. eliminating the need for electric vacuum pump.
