Exclamation Recommendations for a New Clutch/Flywheel Setup

Hey everyone,

Its been a really long time since I have posted....I just wanted to ask the community for their recommendations for my car.

Have had my 2006 IX MR SE since 2007, when it had 15 miles on it, and now it has 78,000 miles. Have very conservative mods and a conservative tune putting down about 360 awhp/360 torque.

I think I had the stock Exedy clutch on the car until about 15,000 miles (the 360 torque did it in and possibly crappy driving from my part), and then I think I replaced it with an ACT Single Disc Six Puck clutch, which lasted until 50,000, and replaced it with another ACT Single Disc Six Puck at that point as well.

So as I approach 85k I want to ask the community about what they think are some good deals on clutches/flywheel combos for mainly street use, I actually want to keep using the car as a daily driver, and plan on making a move from Tampa to Washington DC very soon, so it will be nice to actually use the AWD!

Thanks in advance for the help!
-Nick

I second the comp stg. 2. I got 20,000 from my last one. It makes an excellent DD clutch. Ive just upgraded to their 3.5 cerametallic to hold over 500 AW torque and im very happy.

Curious, you have had three clutches in 85k including the stock one. Have you thought about modifying you driving style so you not going thru then every 2yrs? Or are you just pounding on it and you are aware thats not normal clutch wear.. Just asking, as you should be getting at least 50k mile on those clutches at the very least.

+1

I have this exact clutch with the matching flywheel and it's great.

It's way more binary than stock though, but since you're no longer on the stock clutch you probably won't notice

05803HD - Clutch
MF04 - Flywheel

I got mine from MAPerformance, but you may want to shop around.

No for sure, I think I have adjusted my driving style drastically since I first got the car. When I got the tune, I had about 10,000 miles on the car with the stock clutch, and by 15,000 the clutch went out (possibly due to a mix of my bad driving and letting other people drive my car).

The ACT Single Disc Six Puck I got installed at 15,000 lasted until about 50,000, which I thought was amazing, but to be honest I was probably beating on the car a lot during those miles.

The third clutch that I am on installed at 50,000 (another ACT Single Disc Six Puck), feels great still! But I am weary as I am approaching the 35,000 mark. But the with miles on this clutch I have been driving the car like a grandma...maybe I am being too cautious? I have a good feeling that this one will last until 100,000 hopefully!

Thanks for that insight that I should be getting 50,000 miles out of the clutch, I thought that 35,000 was a good amount! I think that if this one goes out early and the fact that I have been driving like a grandma should lead me to look at possible other issues that are degrading the clutch (possibly linkage or other problems)....

I did find it more binary for the first week or so, but after that I've found it just as easy to slip smoothly as the stock clutch was. I do still have the stock flywheel though, may have something to do with it.

I try and support all vendors, not trying to show any favoritism.

Other site sponsors tend to get upset.

As I guess a related question, I do have the stock exhaust but I have a QTP Electric Controlled Downpipe Cutout, so I can open and close the downpipe with the remote in the car while driving around.

Sometimes I open and close the downpipe while driving for a while, i.e. closing the downpipe when going on the highway and opening when driving around the city, would this impact clutch wear and tear? Because the clutch would be taking different torque loads depending on whether the pipe is closed (less power) or open (max power)?

Thanks again!

I don't think your power changes like that unless you are changing boost maps when you open and close the solenoid?

I'm mostly guessing though.
