Headlight Cut Off Shield Mod

I have finally gotten annoyed enough with the stock 8 headlights to Mod them. lets face it we all know the chrome bezels are ugly. I Know there are a million thread about how to black out the bezels and put the head lights back together etc. etc. I plan on doing that, but while im at it, I was to paint projector cut off shield teal to make the headlights look like the JDM 8 headlights. I have been searching around any haven't seen any threads about painting the actual cut off shield besides this one https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...tors-pics.html I was wondering if anyone has done this, or knows how to do this. I dont know what part is the actual cut off shield and have never taken a headlight apart before. Is there are thread about this i havent found? what color would work best to replicate the jdm cut off shilds? also if I should use spray paint or what? I plan on making a how to while im doing this so no one else will have the questions I do, would hate to ruin my headlights those things ruin them considering how expensive they are. Any info helps Thanks!

I would be interested in finding out about this also. I have never taken a headlight apart but it would be a cool mod to do for looks. Hopefully someone chimes in and can help!

Once you take apart your headlight you'll see it easier. You'll remove the housing that you'll paint black or whatever. Then you'll see the screws to remove the glass lens. Behind the glass lenses and in front of the bulb housing you'll see a metal cutoff shield. That was as far as I wanted to go because I was scared if I took it apart any further it might mess up the alignment of the headlight.

you'll need to remove that metal cutoff piece and paint it with high temp paint. I don't know the color to replicate the jdm 8 headlights.

Goodluck

I would retrofit TSX projectors into the headlights while you're there. Much better light output / cutoff than the evo projectors

Like Demon mentioned, if you are going to open up your headlights you might as well swap in a TSX projector. There are some good pictures posted here at HID Planet, http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/show...Mitsubishi-Evo

Also there is this guy from Australia who has done a ton of Evo headlight work that you can email and ask him any questions you might have, "EvoXenoN at gmail.com"

Wait...does the JDM shield have a bluish tinge to it? I would just paint the housing black and do the JDM turn signal swap.

yeah on jdm healights the projectors are bluish teal when the lights aren't on. from what ive been reading it is because the cutoff shields are painted. I really like the look of it, as well as the black bezel instead of the ugly chrome.

I also have experience with this. I would strongly recommend high temp engine enamel paint to paint the cutoff.

I made this thread recently and I think it will help you out a lot.

I'm thinking if you are wanting a wider range of colors, you could use any spray paint color you want on the projector, and use a high temp clear. That way you aren't limited to just the colors offered in hi temp.
