question, looking into fuel pump as next upgrade. Why is Walbro 255L so popular?

Hi All,

As the title asks, why are the 255L so popular? since i see ones that have more capability and flow.. .e.g 400L that costs only say $50 more.

Also, if i was to go higher than 255L. Can anyone list all the ones compatible with the stock in-tank pump?

I have no idea why they are so popular. I had one fail on me, English Racing has had dozens of failed Walbro pumps.

When this one goes on me i'll be going with the Aeromotive pump. It's slightly more expensive and has fewer known issues.

Thousands use it with success and it works. Just be careful with fake ones.
I use to run one in another car. Still on stock with the evo.

It's because they are cheap and work well with a relatively low power draw.

I've been through 2 walbros in 3 years. No biggie since they're so cheap but this last week I swapped it out for an aeromotive 340. New pump works great. Working on doing -6an feed and return lines next week now depending on your power goals a real walbro 255 should suffice just the same. The reason they're so popular though is because its plug n play and flows enough for 75% of the communities needs.

Well Bosch 044 seems to be the worshipped pump. But i have read articles on them failing. And usually when they go, they become unbearably loud apparently.

Well 255L walbro is sufficient for 530hp??

my Goals, well I'm running approx 20PSI boost, cold air intake & soon to have exhaust and o2. So i should do the fuel pump upgrade. Don't want to risk a fuel surge.

theres a few here that i can see;

AEM 320LPH In Tank Fuel Pump - (apparently supports 1000HP)

Aeromotive 340 Stealth In-Tank Fuel Pump (similar flow to above)

Deatschwerks 300+ LPH In-Tank Fuel Pump

Full Blown FB340 Fuel Pump

will all of these fit the stock pump housing/location?

Also, with a larger and higher flowing pump will the regulator need to be replaced with an aftermarket one?

thanks

Apparnently fuel surge causes big problems with the motor.

So since your pumps have failed, I'm curious to know… how did you realise they failed?

Don't tell me your engine blew up or something?

No not that, they just become so unbearably loud and unstable I have to swap them out. They start buzzing so loud it sounds like a dog whistle that you can hear. Once they started getting loud my base fuel pressure started bouncing all over the place too.

They are so popular because back when the evo came out there really wasnt any drop in fuel pumps. So people stick to what they know works. And they work fantastic

One thing that bothers me is how people talk like theres a lot of failures with them..... Of course its going to look that way because its pretty much what everyone has been using in evos until lately unless you went with an out of tank pump. Its kind of hard to see/ hear about failures in other pumps when they arent even being used.

Of ourse your going to hear about "a ton of failures" when that's whats the overwhelming majority of people use. So in total that makes up like 2% of all walbro pumps. Your not gonna hear about as many failures on other brands as they're not being used remotely close as it's competitor.

I have had a whinebro 255 in just about every vehicle i've owned. The one in my 240 has been silent as a lamb, but the one in my Evo is like a howler monkey. They both work perfect and besides from the noise, i've never had an issue. Combine that with the fact that they are around $80 brand new, and that you can DIY a double pumper with 2 of them for less than $300 makes them a winner in my book.

The stock ones you can't hear anything, silent.

How loud are the 255L?
