Finding a stock or even mildly bolted wrx will be much much easier. You won't be getting an sti swap but a wrx should be easy and Suby are darn reliable

Yeah I would love a stock one and I found this but only bad part is it has salvage title but everything else looks good. It's at 90k miles and in my fav color.

Can always get a nice 98-99 GSX! 8k is plenty for one well taken care of. Being you are from NY, I would search for a southern PA, VA, DC, DE area's for one without rust. $6k for a decent one and $2.5k extra in case you need something for it.

If you have your heart set on an evo:

www.searchtempest.com Go out of your way (<300 miles) to score an evo for sub 10k.

Just a thought =)

I gave up on the Evo for now because I looked everywhere but couldn't find a decent one I could rely on in my price range. I'll give gsx some search too but I'm going to see that wrx in an hour and see how it goes.

If I was in your situation I would find a cheap reliable get to work/school and back car, something with good gas mileage, and hopefully very little maintanence problems. Something like this: http://www.ksl.com/auto/listing/1289368?ad_cid=10

Than just save, save, save. Eventually you'll be able to afford that dream car a yours and you'll appreciate it more.

Look for a solid GVR4. Parts and modding are DIRT cheap, and for the most part much faster for cheaper.

WRX is horrible on gas. A civic Si gets 30+ mpg and is tons of fun to drive. You won't win any drag races but you well drive circles around most cars. Then again, if you are looking to drag race, a stock Evo is the wrong choice anyway.

I bought an 2005 Evo X w/79k miles for $10k... but it needed a transmission rebuild, another $2000 worth of maintenance, paint is 6 out of 10, clear coat on wing and calipers peeling, apparently an engine fire at one point (though clean title), etc. Not really a deal once all said and one.

No I am not looking for drag racing at all. I just want stylish sporty reliable car for work and school that people around me won't fun of.

I have someone in NC who's willing to sell me his evo 8 that has 180k miles for 8500 but that engine and tranny is beat up and would need a proper repair or change. He still drives the car daily but he said it shuts off when he stops and major idle problem. He thinks it only needs new throttle body but i think its more than that.

All wings and calipers peel, if the cars are driven. No way around it, unfortunately. No biggie, though. Engine fires are pretty hard core, though.

Good community here. I bet you expected to get ripped a new one for asking for an evo for 8k? Nice to see folks helping him out.
