Is it possible to get an evo 8 for $8k?

Can always get a nice 98-99 GSX! 8k is plenty for one well taken care of. Being you are from NY, I would search for a southern PA, VA, DC, DE area's for one without rust. $6k for a decent one and $2.5k extra in case you need something for it.
If you have your heart set on an evo:
www.searchtempest.com Go out of your way (<300 miles) to score an evo for sub 10k.
Just a thought =)

If I was in your situation I would find a cheap reliable get to work/school and back car, something with good gas mileage, and hopefully very little maintanence problems. Something like this: http://www.ksl.com/auto/listing/1289368?ad_cid=10
Than just save, save, save. Eventually you'll be able to afford that dream car a yours and you'll appreciate it more.

WRX is horrible on gas. A civic Si gets 30+ mpg and is tons of fun to drive. You won't win any drag races but you well drive circles around most cars. Then again, if you are looking to drag race, a stock Evo is the wrong choice anyway.
I bought an 2005 Evo X w/79k miles for $10k... but it needed a transmission rebuild, another $2000 worth of maintenance, paint is 6 out of 10, clear coat on wing and calipers peeling, apparently an engine fire at one point (though clean title), etc. Not really a deal once all said and one.
No I am not looking for drag racing at all. I just want stylish sporty reliable car for work and school that people around me won't fun of.
