Wiring Harness Help! Went On A Depinning Rampage...

In between tunes, installs and repairs I try to find time for projects on my shop Evo VIII.

I'm at the beginning stages of a wire tuck. I'm depinning the sensors I don't need and I accidentally depinned a diagnostic wire (orange wire #62).

It's in the correct position for the ECU harness, but where does it go to? It's the orange wire to the right. This never came out of the harness. The other end of it did and I can't remember where it goes.

Here's where I think it goes:

And this is where I put it:

From the bends in the wire and the length, this seems like the most logical place. If you have your harness out then you can help me. Thanks!

I'm heading out to my garage in the burbs on Sunday night. I have a harness out of the car laying there. PM me on Sunday if you don't have an answer yet and I will take a look for you.

if the bends in the wire match, thats probably where is goes. That is just a terminal end that they cap after they (mistu) probably checks all the wiring themselves using a diagnostic machine. Just make sure NO wires in there connect, but I have those in my galant, and no wires connect, its just a terminal.

That would be amazing!!!

I knew someone had to have a harness out of the car.

Thanks! I'm pretty sure it does go there too. I just want to be sure before I put it all back together.

Those blue and green plastic clips in the front have metal contacts in them. I think they bridge to the other wires on that row. Here's a pic.

When I installed a new complete engine harness I remember thinking how weird that plug looked. It's right under the heater controls behind the cubby hole there. I know exactly which plug that is there you are talking about. I might be heading out there on Saturday night instead of Sunday now so I will take a look for you.

Not yet, I was waiting on a 180 amp alternator to show up before I head out there to install everything. It's coming on Tuesday night so I will be out there on Wednesday now for sure. My bad, sorry, stupid usps. I just yanked my cubby hole out to take a look on the one in my car but the wires coming out of that plug are fully wrapped in electrical tape so I can't see them. I will still check for you, just not till Wednesday now.

I will still check for you but check out the last picture in this listing. You can see the backside of that "plug" and the top wire is orange as suspected.

That's funny, because I was looking at his auctions too to see if I could see ittoo. It's hard to tell because I'm trying to see the 2nd row. If all else fails I'll by his harness.

I'm doing this tuck with AC, but if I buy this other harness I'll do a 2nd harness without AC so I have one of both.

The orange wire ultimately goes to the OBD port, but it passes through two shunts on the way there (the bridge connectors).
On the first one it should be on the center row shunt (there will be another orange wire right next to it, that is the outgoing wire). On the second one it will be on the top shunt (again there will be another orange wire right next to it, the outgoing wire to the port).

Makes sense. I see what you mean about not seeing the second row. I have all this work planned to do, ported im and tb, new wga, new high output alternator, and the list goes on. The only thing I was waiting on was the alternator and the usps sent it to the wrong hub and added like 4 days to the shipping time. I have to get this stuff done so I will be out there Wednesday for sure and will let ya know.

I've got the better part of an entire harness from a IX. Do you need the entire harness or are you just looking for certain plugs off of it? I replaced my harness "in-situ" so I had to cut the old one out but I was able to get the new one in without cutting it. So I have a whole harness its just in sections if you need any of the plugs or connectors off of it let me know. I can help ya out. If you need a whole one TAE is a great place to buy from. I've done a lot of bizz with them and they have never let me down once.

Thanks! I've bought some stuff from taeusedautoparts813 too. Great CS and fast. I just have to wonder where in the world is he getting all of these used Evo parts.

I'll need the whole harness and I have an VIII. I plan to keep AC for now and later (once I get another DD) I'll do an AC delete with another harness. Both will have a circular Mil.Spec connector. Once I do that I may sell the one with AC.

Okay so I can't upload images, its telling me that the file size is too big. We both missed something kind of obvious though anyways, be it 99% my fault. I have a IX and you have a VIII so the wire harnesses are different. I was hoping in that area they would be the same but they are not. My "top row" has zero wires coming out of it. Yours has three black ones it looks like in position 2 3 4 on the top row. My second row has four orange ones in a row then some black ones. I can tell you that on mine that orange wire is in the same place you put yours but again its wired up differently. Sorry man but if I had to guess I would say you have it right. Did you pull all of the wires and pins out of that connector when you were working? Just thinking maybe yours is supposed to not have any pinned into the top row too. PM me your email address and I will send you a bunch of pics of the plug at different angles if you would like.

Already explained where it goes and why 2 days ago. Don't try to reinvent the wheel here, it is very basic stuff.
