Inline fuse on the cigarette lighter, aka "why doesn't my cigarette lighter work"

Like a few people, I have had my cigarette lighter die after plugging in an accessory (in my case, a tire pump). Normal people would check the fuse boxes first, but I had this problem on my WRX too, so the first thing I checked was the cigarette lighter's inline fuse.

Note that I have an IX.

There's been some discussion of the inline fuse but I haven't found a picture yet and wanted to add one.

Here's the old one. Note the melted dark gray line. That's the inline fuse. No es bueno.

Here's the replacement on the left, busted one on the right. You can tell the fuse on the left is not mutated.

Also note that it looks like they changed the design between the 8 and the 9. My 9 had the two prongs on the lighter socket, but the replacement I bought (MR233903) only has one prong on the lighter socket. The ground prong is on the metal case that goes around the socket (top of the picture).

At some point I'm going to pick up a 2nd one to have as a spare since it would suck to be in Toledo or Nebraska or something and not have a way to charge my phone.

Anyway, I hope this is useful for someone.

AWDmotorsports via Amazon, but if you google the part number, a lot of places have it.

My V1 radar always blows the 15 amp fuse under the dash. The V1 has a 2amp fuse in the CLA, that never blows. The V1 works fine in my other cars. Someone mentioned something about the "thermal" wire in the CL socket? Seems like a short somewhere. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Rick

I have an OEM one for sale that I purchased from STM. I bought it thinking this was my problem but I checked the fuse box and had a blown fuse... Fail

PM me if you need it
