Also, look up ODUB, he was in a similar situation. He had bought an Evo IX MR brand new and sold it with 180k miles a while back for an Evo X SE, and he regretted it badly. He tried to buy the car back, but the guy didn't want to give it back, and it took him a while to find a used one to his liking.

It's your money, do whatever you want. With that said, I think the 2015 STI is the worst looking STI of all time. The car is just plain ugly. I can't find one angle where it looks good. I saw one where someone took a pic of it and a Hyundai put back to back and it looks very similar from the side. It might be the best STI mechanically, but it's a huge step down in styling. And from what I hear the new interior is made with very cheap materials. I guess it scratches easily and holds on to the dirt. I would take a hawkeye any day over the 2015. I think you should keep the 9. Maybe save your money and work your way up to a GTR?

Have you considered the WRX over the STi? Honestly, IMO, I would gladly take the WRX over the sti. It really depends what you plan on doing with the car. The WRX has the FA motor, and the optional CVT transmission or the "bulletproof" 6 speed.

Done with this stupid idea. No STI for me. Keeping the IX MR forever. Back to trying to decide I should dump the big $$$ on the upcoming Cayman GTS . . .

You made a good decision. I know guys who have gone through multiple engines due to those ringlands/pistons in the ej25. Absolute nightmare. Now the Cayman on the other hand would be a winner.

I think the WRX is the better buy over the STI. The boosted FA20 is unknown but you would hope Subaru would have learned from the past mistakes. Supposedly it handles well too.

If the STi had the new FA20 motor heck even a proper EJ207, I would consider buying it as a nice daily and keeping the Evo, but the fact its still rocking the POS EJ257, not a chance. After 3 rebuilds on my STi, selling it and stepping into an Evo 9, would not swap it for another mechanical disaster.

I know you said you were done but I have to comment on this thread... ahem.......

No doubt about it the IX is the best performing Evo. The X is pretty and easily moddable but money is the # factor for most of us so get the best bang for your buck is paramount. I think you should go ahead and get the STi but don't trade in the Evo. If you do get a X. That will have those creature comforts you mentioned.

With both cars you can A/B them and really figure out if the Subie is going to make you c*m in your pantalones or puke in your mouth.

Good call... for what its worth I'd recommend a few tasteful mods to the IX to help freshen it up. A stock car is one thing, but there is no reason to not run a slightly larger turbo, more aggressive cams, and minor bolt-ons. I was running 400+ whp with stock spool for years including regular track days and daily driving. You could freshen up the exterior/interior, and get substantially more power out of the IX for a few thousand bucks which might re-invigorate your love of the car.

Also Subaru's suck. The EJ257 is a horrible engine.

I mean I understand that you had already had a track evo with a bunch of goodies on but I would keep the 9 and get them to come down on the price on the STI. As long as you don't track the 9 it should last a long time with no issues with proper maintenance. Good luck with the purchase and hope you get a great deal on the STI!

It doesn't make sense. I guess they are banking that the Suby fanboys will snap up a new STI even if they have to replace the engine every 20k. Pretty lame on Subaru's part.
