Freeway commuting in the Evo
I commute 60 miles a day with the EVO. I love the EVO on the highway. But the EVO is a drivers car. If I staill had a passenger, I would have the EVO and another car for the commute. My guess is you won't be able to hold out over the passengers complaint of rough riding. I couldn't, so I quit having a passenger on my communte.
the Evo is underrated as a highway car
My job requires me to travel...a LOT.
After making a number of runs (6-8 hour round-trips in a single day, sometimes consecutively), I have to revise my initial opinion about this car......
The EVO rocks for commuting! I'm a lot older than most of the people on this board (52) and definitely not skinny or in great shape. But the seats are so good, I NEVER get a case of the numb-bum. Besides, the steering is so telepathic, that it's effortless to keep the car in lane position.
Maybe it's because it's so entertaining, I don't know, but the net result is that I feel better after a long day in this than I did in my A4.
Bottom line: if you like to DRIVE... you won't be sorry.

Honestly dude, I would not get the evo for several reasons:
1) One of the main reasons I got this car is the easy of modifications, with your cali **** gas, you really cant mod much without having to mix every single gas tank with 100 octane fuel.
2) Your commute will be terrible, nothing slowes down an evo more than a Hot cali day in stop and go traffic. The Evo will seem slow and unresponsive, and to top that, we all know that the evo is not exactly known for low end torque.
3) Cops cops and more cops, you will be pulled over alot, the cali cops seem to target import race cars, especially ones with big wings.
4) Harsh ride, at least to the wife
Recommendations:
1) G35 Coupe - Has everything: Luxury, speed, decent handling, and drop dead looks!
2) Sti - Decent interior, better able to deal with stop and go traffic. More hp/torque than the evo out of the box. And since modding wont be much of an issue (b/c of bad gas), it is right up your alley. Handles well, stops well, and interior is much better than the evo.
3) Spend 5K on a used automatic civic/corolla as a beater, and 22-25K on a 2002/2003 S2000 roadster (it's a SIN to not have a roadster in Cali)
Dont get the 3 series as it is due for a redesign/facelift soon.
