Impatient for EVO VIII

Well, I am going crazy! 4-5 more months until it will be at showrooms hopefully. When will we get real specs and real non-spy photos? I wish they would just send us brochures on the new model. But I suppose it is not finalized yet and they haven't figured out all the options and pricing. Why are they taking so long? ARGH!

Just to **** you off

j/k

I'd guess for the exact reasons that you jst talked about....pricing, and options. Not to mention I'd assume they're trying to keep things relatively sercet until the World Launch at the Super Bowl

CZ3 concept

You might recall the CZ3 concept shown last year at the Tokyo Motor Show.
It featured the AYC and ACD underpinnings from he EVO and could theoretically fit a 2 liter turbo with a raised hood and wider track.
Given that Mitsu knows it can fit the drivetrain, powertrain development should be no problem...
Are you guys ready for the Colt EVO

I too am goin nuts but know that the secrecy is for the better since when it does come itll be sweet to have a car that no one knows anything about much less even seen... much like my maxima was when i first got it in AUG of '99 (its a 2000).

in anticipation

The only thing that disturbs me is the "market value" to be decided upon delivery of the vehicle. Especially if this is going to be a "limited production" car. But still, if Mitsubishi wants to charge me a $1000 dealer mark-up on top of the MSRP price, I can just go buy a WRX for a LOT less.

I hope Mitsubishi dealers are paying attention and I hope they ship enough to meet demand. I WILL NOT, I REPEAT *WILL NOT* pay one cent over the MSRP total for the car and options.

Then you my friend will NOT be in a new Evo Vlll when they are first released. Because the dealers will mark-up the prices over MSRP. I would say on average about $5K over, but around here in Hi the dealer( there are only two on the island, both owned buy the same owner ) they are marking them up to $42K. And there WILL be buyers here believe me. IE. the first 03 Cobra came out about a month ago here marked up to $43K ($10K over MSRP) it was sold the next day. And I know there are people who are going to pay $42K for the Evo here. I am Not going to be one of them though, I've waited this long for an Evo, I can wait till mid or late 03 when the prices drop. And who knows by that time we might even get the Nissan GTR.

I know why they wont tell us anything about the car..... the is one very very important reason... they are still trying to sell Lancers.. the dealerships arent being given info because they dont want potential lancer customers to say "I think I will just wait for the evolution" It is simply a marketing operation... they dont want to take any focus off of the stamdard lancer

I think it has way more to do with same class competition i.e. the future STi and upcoming cars that may actually rival the Evo rather than the Lancer as is. It's already secured itself a niche as a grocery getter and, for some of us, a tuner. If anything they'd want to push the Evo ASAP and build up interest to sell MORE. The more expensive the car the more mark-up (and therefore profit) they'll make. Personally I don't think it has much, if anything, to do with the current US Lancer.

thats a good way to look at it, but that was what the manager of the dealership that I put my deposit down said was the most likely reason for witholding information, because from a marketing stand point, your shooting yourself in the foot if your trying to sell lancers now, but are talking about the next best thing at the same time... know what I mean.

Not necessarily my friend. If the pressure from the public is large enough, they CAN'T and WON'T sell for over MSRP. For instance I just sent an e-mail off to the dealer that I'm getting my Evo from, just to make sure that he wasn't about to mark-up the price, and he said "No...we WILL NOT be selling for over MSRP". If the pressure from the people who are buying it is large enough, they will not sell for for over MSRP.

There may be some 40+ idiots out in Cali. who jst heard about it from the Super Bowl willing to pay $10k over MSRP, but the VAST majority of the people out there won't be willing to pay that, for a car they've not really heard of. Keep in mind that the Evo hasn't had the same visibility that the Cobra, Camaro SS, Porche's have had in the past. Not a WHOLE lot of people are willing to pay that $$$ for a car they've never heard of.

there will be enough people that will do just that to sell evos for MONTHS. Thats why I think most enthusiasts (who know what they should be paying) will wait a couple months, and use the extra money to make their evos fast, rather than to buy them.

Around here (Hi) there will be people who WILL pay $42K for the Evo when it comes out. The dealer I spoke with said that they are only getting 24 Evos for the entire year, with three of them already sold at $42K. iT REALLY sucks when you can't just DRIVE to another dealer. (Drawback of living on an island) With only 24 Evos in their hands that pretty much gives them an advantage. Especially here.

Also the latest romour in C&D said price EST...$29,999.00 And to meet the under $30K price active electronics will probably be replaced with mechanical pieces, and only 4000 will be released for the first year.
