thinking of buying an evo
thinking of buying an evo
Hey guys, well ive been snooping around the forums for a while because ive always loved these cars. Ive had a spec-v (500whp), civic si (600whp) then had kids and best i could do was an srt4 (stage 2) which is pretty slow but i loved the car it was fun for what it was. Well, i just sold my srt4 and have about 13 - 14 gs. I really really love the evo 9 but i know they are a bit pricy. No offense to anyone but i have to say, ive never dealt with such a ****ty crowd before. I mean, ive never felt so bad when trying to buy a car before. I was looking at a evo 9 mr with 100k miles rebuilt title supposedly for theft with dent on roof. Says it has new act flywheel/clutch, rebuilt axles, supposedly shep built tranny, and everything else stock. The guy wanted 17 gs and i offered 13 then 14. After a long story he saying no then calling me back saying yes at 14 then i no longer had the money told him to let me see if i could borrow it. I told him 13.5 because i could no longer get 14. Guy said i was a waste of time etc etc. I mean idk guys i guess im just venting. I want to know what you guys think, i mean am i wrong? Is a rebuilt title evo 9 mr really worth that much? I mean the guy was acting like he was helping me or doing me a favor by selling me his car. Ive spoke with other sellers trying to make deals and i get the same bs...this is no honda etc etc. I mean, im not lowballing im offering what i think is decent offer. Idk, maybe im wrong. Im still looking around but by the looks of it its not looking like ill be able to get an evo on this run either...damn...
13-14k is a fair price for a rebuilt title Evo 9, I feel. I mean 100k mile MR's sell for like 18-20k with clean titles. So with the rebuilt title and 14k is not unreasonable considering the rarity of these cars. Prices should just be going up as time progresses, since all new performance cars are becoming hybrid (specially new possible Mitsubishi Evolution).
exactly, i mean i understand that...i was willing to do $14k when i had the money but he said no so i said ok thats done with then a week or so later he comes back and says, "i wanna help you lets make a deal"...i told him that i no longer had that amount to give me a day to see if i could borrow some money...i came back at him with $13.5 which is really what i have its not because im lowballing or trying to get a deal...he says hes not giving his car away and to buy something else and that hes not selling it to someone whos a waste of time...i mean wtf!? im trying to explain to him that theres evo 9's for $18 or so with around his mileage with clean titles that price im offering is reasonable...but i guess its his car and he asks what he wants... the whole time this guy is acting like he is doing me a favor by selling me his car...like i told him, dude this is mutual you want to sell and i want to buy...stop acting like a little girl and lets do business i mean cmon now...this car has a big *** dent on the roof which i have to fix, it has a tiny dent in the trunk which no big deal, has a check engine light which he says its an evap code which i could fix if thats really what it is...i think i was totally fair and reasonable...i just felt really bad because im a business man and i work for myself in construction which requires me to deal with people, price haggling, and make deals every day...guy made me feel like i went back on my word or something...
you wont ...
do it man. i understand the cars you listed did the honda scene also But I also have had 94 Supra TT (turned single T78) had the rx-7 and so on.. I have had many JDM super cars. not just the little guy stuff. 2 things i can say, 1. Supra is my fav of all time.. but still 2. I can honestly say EVERYTIME i get into my whip.. (which is not as fast as few of my other cars ... for now) I smile i truely love this car. I know eventually i want to do a skyline.. but I dont see myself getting rid of this car.. Im sure im not only one on here...
since not into the scene this has been around awhile but speaks truth of our cars..
first line is me everytime...
man good luck let us know and hope to see you and your whip on the bored

Yea I'm on the same page as you. I've been hunting an evo for a while now and every seller I message seems to be shady and seems to be hiding something. Even when I try ask about the car they are hesitant about giving away info and it just seems that they don't want to sell. Idk if it's me but I can't seen to find a serious seller to do business with.
nohatn thanx man I hope so too...I have always loved these cars but never had the opportunity to buy one...now that I do I'm having a ***** of a time...the other thing is, having 2 kids and a wife it's dangerous to have the money laying around for too long because sooner or later something pops up and there goes the car...evokid, I know exactly what you mean dude...every single one of the people I've dealt with have seemed shady except the evo 9 guy I mentioned in my first post...at least he was up front with everything and sent me pics...I'm dealing with one now that stops answering me every time I ask for under hood and interior pics...he lives an hour from me and I don't want to drive out there if I don't see more pics...all he shows in the ad are a couple pics of the outside...I mean, we're not dealing with $5-6k here...you know how hard I've had to work to gather 13-14k to buy a car?

lol yeah that's shady man...it makes me want to be extra careful when buying one of these cars...it's happened to me with all of them...I had one that was really into it and was cooperating and as soon as I told him i know about cars and engines and that I would be running some tests on the car
oof: he disaapeared...it was like flipping a switch or mentioning his mother lol...have to have your spidey senses at 100% when buying one of these...I mean I sold my srt4 and I was so confident of how healthy the motor and tranny were I'm the one who proposed to the buyer to take it somewhere and have it checked out...I'm very picky with my vehicles so car was perfect...it sold in literally 4 days after putting it on craigslist for more than I bought it for 2 years ago...either way, good luck man hopefully we both find an awesome one and get to enjoy the heck out of em...

I sold my srt4 for my evo, make sure you get the exact evo you want, sometimes I wish i had a 9 SE but I have so much damn money in my car now that it doesn't make sense to sell and get a 9 SE
what I really want is a 9...always have but looks like maybe I'll have to settle for an 8 or end up in another srt4...I really want to take that next step into an evo but man I've n er had such a hard time trying to find a car...
if you want a 9, expect to pay $18+ unless it's a high-mileage car
if you want the car just because you want an evo, buy an 8. i went with a 9 simply for the interior changes, the MIVEC was just a side bonus. if i had to do it again, i'd have saved $6k and bought a higher mileage evo 8 and saved the extra money
if 13-14 is your budget, you are looking at 2003 evos with 130k+ miles

well, to be honest I would settle for a rebuilt title 9 that checks out all my tests...there are tons of 03 8's around here with about 100k for 13-14 and there's one with 97k miles that is going for 11 but of course shady owner...if it's that low there must be a reason but I was willing to investigate and check it out just that owner will answer whenever the hell he wants...
hehe, I guess they act like that because the EVO is a legendary car that's in fairly high demand, they feel like they have the upper hand. I will say this though, a lot of evo guys on these forums had really bad attitudes, just in general, so it's not surprising you had a bad experience. I'm glad a lot of them are gone now, or about to be gone once they sell their cars.
