Help! Soon to be Evo owner hopefully.

Hello everyone, Like the title says I am looking to purchase an Evo 9 hopefully in the following week. So some back story. I am coming from a 2006 G35 Coupe, which has been pretty reliable and over all pretty happy with but It lacks performance and I would like to own something with AWD. I looked in to Subarus but have done research and have been turned off by the ring-land failure. So that's a no go. So after months of searching I came across one that caught my eye and will be looking at it this Thursday. So here is where I need some help, I am not 100% sure what to look for in a used Evo. I understand the basics of when buying used car to look for..Check Oil, Check for funny noises, Check for frame damage etc... If it helps at all here is the dealership I am going to....

I am specifically looking at the blue one and the gray one.
Sorry for the wall of text here is a tl:dr
-Buying Evo 9 soon
-Not sure what to check for to make sure I am getting a decent Evo
- Any tips or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Look for a complete maintenance history, do a thorough test drive, and get a Pre-purchase inspection done by a mitsu dealer/ knowledgeable shop. If the seller has a problem with any of this then just move on. Don't let emotions get involved its business. I cant stress the PPI enough, a couple hundred bucks could save you from a huge mistake.

As long as the transmission feels good, no whines, and the motor is solid, you're good to go. If you buy it, take it straight to an Evo shop and have them do a compression test and leakdown test.

You might also want to post up in your local regional forum to see if there's anyone in your area that knows Evo's better than you that might be able to go check them out with you/or for you.
I actually went & checked out a car for someone out of state who was just looking to see if a car was even worth wasting their time. Took me all of 30 minutes out of my day, & I got to chat with a fellow Evo enthusiast. Good luck.

I would HIGHLY suggest a compression or leak down test on the car. Also look for leaks and weird wiring because alot of people hack up these wiring harnesses

well i would do the same thing you did when you bought your G35, check for any leaks, random engine noise knocking, lights on the dash, test drive and beat on it make sure theres no grinds when shifting. Im pretty sure you did that before purchasing your infiniti, oh and get ready to dump 3k on it doing all the maint. timing belt, water, drivetrain fluids ect.

What you wanna do is have those tests done before you buy it. If everything else seems good after your test drive etc, then you take it over for these tests and a few others (PPI). If that goes well then its a go.

There are plenty of shops that are much more competent than the dealership in helping you out with a PPI. Everyone knows AMS, but I would actually bring it over to Boostin Performance and have Devin take a look. At the very least, compression test and leakdown are appropriate.

I agree, I just do not know if the dealership would let the dude have the car for a day just for that test.

Its totally normal to have a car inspected by a 3rd party before a sale. If they have a problem with it, that would be a big red flag.

This...its called a prepurchase inspection (PPI), and the dealership should not have a problem with it.
