harness help
Ok - I have searched and have not found what I am looking for. I can't believe that this has not been asked before so if this has been covered pleae just post the thread without bashing.....
Now to the question...
I want to know what brand of harness will fit in the Evo the best. I am looking for a 4 point harness. I have talked with Sparco which has a nice one and even installed in in their Evo shoe car. However they installed in on Sparco seats. They took out the Racaros and but in Their own brand. They tell me that I will need some custom material that I will have to get myself to make the harness fit.
That being said, has anyone insatalled a 4 or 5 point harness in their Evo? What brand is it? How did it fit? Did you have to do any custom work? Where did you get the harness.
Any help is greatly appreciated...

Call Garrett at World One Performance we just went though all the Sparco offerings. I chose the Clubman 4 pt with seatbelt locks. The cometition leverlocks will also work fine with the 78" shoulder harness but does need some hardware packs. The clubmans fit right in the stock mounting positions and are quick strap. HTH
How it fits is very dependant on how it is installed. There are no kits that I am aware of that are avaialble to "simply" bolt in a harness. They're easy to do, but there are a lot of options often. SOme folks use the latch safety bolts in the rear deck, some use a roll bar, some remove the rear seat.. You should look for a local shop who is familiar with safety equipment and what your needs are..
i went with a 3 point clubman sparco harness. Attached under the oem belts at seat and attached 3rd point at child restraint in rear deck. Little bit in the way for rear passenger, but one bolt and its off in rear! I can still use stock seat belt on the street.
I just posted this pic of my Schroth Rallye harness. I purchased it on eBay from a guy who had it in his BMW 3-series to go into my 2000 Celica GT-S. As you can see, it goes into the Evo w/little trouble. If you get one meant for the Evo you might have a bit different flanges at the bolts for fitment, but, again, I didn't have any real problems.
The harness is comprised of two main parts. The chest and lap straps are one part (at least they were assembled when I got mine used) and the rear, 'anchoring' part.
The 'anchoring' part is a single strap w/2 flanges, one on each end, that get bolted in right where the rear seatbelt anchors are located. Simply removed the rear seat, unbolt the anchors with your socket wrench, and bolt this back in place, making sure there are no twists in the strap. In the center of this strap is a clip that looks like the male end of a seatbelt - a blade with a hole in it. This will clip into it's female counterpart on the chest and lap straps part.
This chest and lap straps part must have the flanged ends guided and shoved through the holes in our recaros. Again, this is what I had to do because everything was already assembled - I don't know how many pieces the harness ships in prior to assembly, if any. Once slid through you have the hardest part - bolting the flanges into the seatbelt anchoring bolts for the front seat. They are ON the seat itself on the console side - a bit odd when I saw that. That can be awkward but it's certainly straightforward. Just unbolt, place the strap flange or anchor and rebolt. You have to make up your mind whether you want it inside the seatbelt itself or outside and mind the washers so all is assembled their best. Just watch how it comes apart and what all comes off so it can all go back on logically!
Loosen the straps, clip the back part to the front, slide in, clip it together, and pull on the tightening straps - boom! You're in!
I assume larger people may have fitment issues and it's important they get the proper part. Calling the mfr of a harness and telling them what it's for should get you some insight - even if you're buying it from a private party.
Good luck!

MP5,
That Sparco is the exact same one I was looking at. Sparco told me that I would need to get extra mounting parts to be able to out it in my Evo and they do not supply the parts. That I would need to get them elsewhere. What is the number for Garett?
Msaer,
You installed yours so that you can use your stock belts also? Could I do that with a 4 point?
KazzEvo8,
Is that instulation prettymuch perminent? It does not appear that you can uninstall it very quickly or easily? Do you wear the harness for evey day driving then?
I do not have a roll cage and I am looking for something that I can put in for autocross events/track days and taken out for normal driving or something that I can leave in but be able to use the stock belts as well.
thanks to all for your input....

Daivd,
Willl do -- thanks...
So you just ordered the 4 point? Are you doing the install yourself? Did the purchase include all the hardware necessary to mount the harness in the Evo or do you have to get extra hardware as Sparco told me I would have to do?
