Yah a 6 speed would be nice as well as full boost to redline stock.. that 4th to 5th is just too wide.. Needs a helper gear inbetween there and 5th then could be have just a smidge more top end. Maybe there is room for a little more evolution, heh.

That's fully on topic. This is the Evo as a track car thread and SCI compared the Evo with two other VERY expensive rides on the track.. no harm, no foul. IT would be nice if SCI was published monthly with more Evos compared on track to other cars, heh. and on other tracks.

I think the major car publications are dropping the ball regarding the Evo/Sti in comparison tests. The "What makes a sports car?" lines have been blurred. Having said that, I would like to see an Evo/STi/350Z/RX-8/S2000/Boxster/Z4/AudiTT comparison. When we were shopping for a new car, we were considering a 350Z, Rx-8 and G35 Coupe... et al. MT, Sport Compact Car, and Consumer Reports ran a couple of decent comparos but I'd like to read more.

Same here. I think comparisons lately have been quite muddled. I also am a bit dissapointed in how little weight car costs have been given.. Maybe it's jut my little world, but most folks I know are quite conscious of cost. Also It behoove consumers to have long term cars evaluated without the manufacturers/dealers beign aware that it is a "magazine" test car. and give us some good customer service details.

Interesting. I have never read any road test of the evo that spoke of the "running out of steam on top end" issue. I'm sure it exists if you guys have first hand experience. The "real" Euro evo is a 6 speed and often gets knocked for being not as good as the 5 speed in the VII. But then again it's got 30-50 more HP depending on the version and that makes a differance-

I have heard not as good *or* as durable as the 5-speed. In my Z I had wished it had 6 cogs, 2nd seemed too tall sometimes. However, I have read that some 350Z owners are lamenting the 6-speed in the 350z. They save 5 would be enough.

While we're on trannies, I would like to mention the bolt-action shifter feel, very direct and crisp. Much more crisp than my brother's '03 Z06--too rubbery for a car of it's nature.

OE 6 speed trannies on transverse cars are always weaker compared to the 5 speed's they were based off of. The main reason is that usually the casing is no bigger on the 6 speed, thus all of the internals have been made smaller to fit the extra hardware.

On the topic of track cars, is the owner of the red Evo with the full cage that was at Moroso on the 6th on here? I got to the track late, you had already retired, clutch failure or gearbox?

The factory alignment has too much negative camber at the rear and too little at the front. This gives some mild understeer and too much tire rollover. With the above settings the handling is pretty neutral.
How is the car on daily basis.
Do you change that back after the driving event?

The car feels fine on the street with these settings. A lot of front negative camber can lead to over-sensitive steering and "tramlining". But I haven't felt with these settings.

I'm going to be putting in some camber plates in a week or two and tweaking the front camber to about -2.5 degrees. We;ll see how it feels then!
