Front End Knocking

Hi,

Searched the forum already. So far I have already eliminated the usual suspects, and ran out of idea.

Strut top mount - checked
Front sway bar bushing/endlinks - checked
Control arm bushings - checked
Outer tie-rod - checked

The noise happens whenever the car goes over bumps. However, I can duplicate this noise by resting the front end on some tires or lifting it up in the air and turn the steering wheel. So it appears that this is something related to the steering.

Other than the noise, the steering feels normal, so I am not sure what could be wrong. Any thoughts or idea what to check or replace before getting down to the pinion?

Thanks.

inner tie rod ends, ball joints, End links, Outer Tie rods, Struts, Strut mounts, wheel bearing, control arm bushings. Brake Pads, or brake pad shims.

Does the noise happen if your pushing the brakes lightly and going over bumps?? If pushing the brakes gets rid of the noise its you pads or pad shims bouncing in the caliper.

Thanks for the response.

Outer tie rod OK
Endlinks OK
Struts/Strut mounts OK (swapped from coilover to stock, still noise)
Wheel bearing OK as there is no play by shaking the wheels at the 12/6 position
Control arm bushings are new OK
Ball joints OK

I haven't checked brake pads/shims, but I highly doubt that would make noise that I could feel the vibration at my feet.

My gut feeling is the steering as it makes the noise if I put some load on the tire and turn the steering wheel left and right, I can duplicate the noise. Just not sure which part of the steering rack could be the reason.

Check your inner tie rods since you've already checked the outer ones.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Apparently, the toe was out of whack, so now it's put back to somewhat zero toe and the noise is temporarily gone. I doubt it was the toe that was causing the issue though, but will report back in a few days after driving the car a bit.

In the meantime, could the toe setting create noises to the front suspension?
