new evo8 owner with CEL flashing

Hey guys I got a evo8 the other day was driving and noticed the check engine light flashing connected the obd2*scanner*to it no codes found so tonight I was on way home and was messing around with it and if I slowly get into boost and then punch it and its fine boost perfect and no check engine light then I was like ok but if im at 2500*rpm*or 3000 rpm and give it decent amount of gas and bam check engine light flashes yes ive read around and people say knock sensor but wouldnt it pop on no matter what even at full boost if thats what it was but if I baby it get into 5psi and punch it it fully boost and easily gets to rev limiter and I can keep shifting through all gear and no light

Sounds like it's got tephra mods, which flashes the cel based on a certain knock count. It could just be set super low or your seeing some spool knock. I'd get the tune looked over.

Then you should spend some money on a good tuner.

Red lights flashing in all instances is a bad thing.
See Tephra mod above, see get a tune above, stop doing what ever it is your doing to have the light flash --unless you want an expensive lesson.
As you are finding out-- a tune on 93 isn't the same as a tune on 91--get it fixed before it fixes you. Good luck.

Good sign you shouldn't have bought this car and should have looked for one that was properly cared for. Knock is not an "ignore if you want" light. It's your motor saying "stop doing this" light.

If you don't want to mess up the motor, stop driving above 4k rpm until you get it tuned. 3k would be better, but many people don't lack the self control to do that. All that rpm limit will do is ensure you stay out of boost

I agree with this. Even with a great tune you can see some knock if you do as you say however, Flooring the gas while in lag can easily give you knock. Even if properly tuned out a variation in ambient air temperature, humidity, altitude, fuel quality, etc can cause you to see a little knock again at this point. Get a tuner to see what tephra rom you have and get a full tune done on the car. Don't assume the previous owner had it properly tuned unless he gave you documentation from a reputable tuner.

My car flashed the knock light a lot in the low end stock (with stock Tephra maps).

What are the mods on the car? Do you have a laptop and cable? You can easily check what's going on for a very small investment. This forum is an encyclopedia of knowledge.

I dont mind spending the money for a tune if thats what it was but just thought it was wierd if I get in it slowly its fine no flash and if I get into it fast from low rpm it flashes I have the self control to not boost I have a full comp ski worth as more than double my car so that's easy to stay out of the throttle just wanted some imput I plan on saving this car so anything I have to do I will

get the car checked out and tuned. Unless you want to buy a new engine, this soon after picking up the car. Better safe than sorry.

You are going through different load cells in the fuel/timing maps when you get on it slowly vs quickly. The cells that are picking up knock are the ones that need to be tuned. What do your AFR's look like ?

What wideband are you using? May want to consider changing the sensor to see if it's correct. 12.6 at idle is really rich.

You should get on your local section and find someone that can do a log and check your tune out for you.
